    Storing opened LME

I'm sure you will be fine. I buy LME from a local home brew shop. It is poured out of a big vat that lets air in as it pours out.

    Why use DME and LME

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm a bit of a noob, and also have never heard to add LME at the end to aid in Hop utilization. I'm not sure about the size Muntons LME comes in. I ended up bastardizing the recipe because of the ingredients at my LHBS. I ended up using all LME and it was not...

    Why use DME and LME

I purchased a magazine with a bunch of clone recipes on the weekend. I spent 7 years in Bath England and miss my English ales. In the mag there is a recipe for Fullers ESB which interests me. The recipe calls for a mix of LME and DME of the same style. Is there a good reason for this? Why...

i know it's probably been covered....

I found this a while back. Worth a read. I made the wine to have something to drink while I was waiting for a kit to age. It was not bad considering the cost. It probably would have gotten a bit better with age...

    Barrel Experience

I've been searching around for some good threads on using oak barrels. There does not appear to be much out there. I was just given a 5 gallon french oak barrel for my 40th birthday present. I've got a wine kit in primary and can't wait to try this out. Does anyone know of a good...

    Beer yeast with cider

I just started some cider with a Belgian ale yeast. My last batch was with a champagne yeast and I think it just went super dry. I did not take OG readings. I think I should have. My first batch was with wild yeast and it turned out great. Hence I did not bother with the OG reading the last two...

Cordon Brew Brewers Bucket - keep or sell?

Mine looks 20 years old. I tried it out and it did boil water. I only boiled a small amount to see if it worked. Perhaps I could use it to heat water for after my steeping grains finish. Would save a bit of time.

What's your offer. I'm flying from DIA Sunday - perhaps we could meet somewhere agreeable. I live north east of Boulder

    dry hopping advice please

I really need to start taking notes. I did cold crash before kegging. A lot of the hops fell out before I kegged, but I did have hop particles in the keg. More fell out in the keg, but my first few pints were more hazy. It tasted great so I did not mind. The later pints were clearer. I tend to...

    dry hopping advice please

I have only dry hopped twice. It was the same S.N. clone. I added the pellet hops to secondary each time. Once directly and once using a hop bag. I swear the hop bag version did not pick up as much hop aroma /flavor. Any thoughts. I am bad at taking notes, but I'm pretty sure I left the hops in...

I'm all about local but dont want to pay a fortune. Just learned that I can rent a press and that some kind folks post free apples on Craig's list. There are a ton of apple trees in town. Let me know if u want to share cost of renting an apple press. Think it is 25 per day.

Cordon Brew Brewers Bucket - keep or sell?

It holds water and heat... as well as plastic bucket can. I guess the thermostat would kick the heating element on if the temp got below x temp. The thermostat is a 1 to 10 dial so I would need to learn how it works. After learning that it worked, I was thinking I could use it to heat water...
