    save 1/2 pack dry yeast?

Contamination of your yeast or of your batch? In both cases I vote no - you will probably be fine. Just tear a small hole in the pack and put it in a new ziplock after.

CO2 line | regulator quick release?

Thank you all very much. day_trippr that is a cool soln with disconnects as requested. I think however I will go with the threaded approach. Thanks Yopper and tally350z!

CO2 line | regulator quick release?

My CO2 tank is outside my keggorator. The whole in the fridge is not large enough to pass the grey quick release through, so if I want to go elsewhere with my kegs I usually end up cutting off an inch of my CO2 supply line so that I can get it free of the regulator. Are there any quick...

    undoing a keggle conversion?

conneryis007 I honestly didn't think of that but you are totally correct. I would stay keg neutral that way. johngaltsmotor, what else would you use it for? I think I understand your description but if you have a picture.... Bobby_M johngaltsmotor, yes, you are both right. I should have...

    undoing a keggle conversion?

Hi All, I have a keggle which I would like to use for distilling. As the name implies it has had the top cut off. Unwisely, in a fit of spring cleaning I threw the top in the trash. Has anyone seen a nice lid job on a keggle? I've thought about how to make something that can take the pressure...

Canadians - boil kettle/htl deal needed

Oh my, what bad forum etiquette I have! I ended up ordering the 15 gallon SS two weld pot from ontario beer kegs: http://www.ontariobeerkegs.com/15_Gallon_Brew_Kettle_p/15-gallon-2weld.htm. You can get this outfitted with ball valve and thermometer and it will be much cheaper (even after...

Recipe sanity check: Oaked Red Rye Imperial IPA

Well, you have certainly given me some home work for the holidays... Just so I understand - is using sugar to make it dry a way to get the target OG without introducing more non-fermentable sugars? Is this just to be to style? Or does it have to do with some kind of flavour interaction...

Recipe sanity check: Oaked Red Rye Imperial IPA

Quaker, thanks for the advice. I had not realized there is a difference between chips and cubes - looks like I will have to do a little research. My LHBS only has chips - so that is a factor. I was planning on soaking them in 0.1 L of whiskey starting on the brew day. I do like the idea of...

Recipe sanity check: Oaked Red Rye Imperial IPA

Skip to the bold at the bottom for the twist. Have a scotch drinking friend coming to town and I want to win him over with homebrewing. He also likes IPAs. I have scotch ale and barely wine on hand so I thought a high gravity oaked IIPA might be just right. ABV 8.4 OG 1.086 IBU 65.5 Color...

    yeast strain comparison

1968 on the left, more bitter and sweeter. Tastes like the wort. On the right 3787 I enjoy much more. Can't put my finger on it but certainly in the fruity/floral spectrum. www.imgur.com/vmjR1vm Edit: trying to get photo to work...

    yeast strain comparison

Certainly less skeptical. I think a bit component for me is still developing my palette and vocabulary to describe things (to myself as well as others). I will get a picture tonight and shucks I guess I can probably fit in some more tasting.

    yeast strain comparison

So these are both being served up out of my keggorator. I was planning on putting up some pictures but they look the exact same (will if requested). Taste is a different story. The 3787 you can smell as soon as you start to pour. Classic belgian aroma, very crisp and refreshing. The 1968 on the...

    Burner maintenance

Cleaning alone did not help but yes that can definitely be a problem. Pretty wet here - my covered patio apparently doesn't help when the rain comes in sideways. The rust got a little out of hand. I thought about using some cooking oil - like what I do for my cast iron cook ware - but...

    Burner maintenance

Standard turkey deep fryer burner was burning yellow and producing soot. I: 1) pulled it apart 2) brushed it with steel wool 3) coated it with motor oil 4) let it soak for ~1 hour 5) wiped off extra oil 6) reassembled and proudly observed epic blue flames. Thought I would post as I...

    Kitchen sink IPA

Working with what I have - trying to save myself a trip to the LHBS. Going for a sweet and fruity IPA. Also looking to clean out the hops in my freezer. Brewing tomorrow and would happily take comments. 12# 2-row pale malt 1/2# honey malt 1/4# cara-pils Hop mix of chinook, cascade...
