Possibly brewing an old extract kit

I must say after brewing a few batches, my patience has increased BUT if it's a true waste of time than I'm not going to bother. I've got two primaries going right now, 1 extract kit waiting to brew and two more mini-mash kids en route from Austin Homebrew Shop getting here on Monday so it's...

    Mini mash?

SmugMug, when you say you don't have the money for an AG setup, what additional pieces of equipment are needed?

Brewing my first batch right now...quick question?

Georgi vodka, cheap and effective :) plus when a little gets sucked in, just boosts alcohol content.

Possibly brewing an old extract kit

My buddy was helping his father in law clean out some stuff from his basement and he found an extract kit still in the box and gave it to me. I have absolutely no idea how old it is, it's a Brewers Best kit but the style of the box & it's contents doesn't look anything like the Brewers Best...

    What went wrong? FG: 1.012 - 1.014...

I'm going to give it a few days. The beer smells so strong it literally burned my nostrils... I was really looking forward to this one so I'll ride it out and see what happens.

    What went wrong? FG: 1.012 - 1.014...

It's a True Brew extract kit. It came with Munton's ale yeast, I did not make a starter. Edit, wow I feel like an idiot... I just looked at the hydrometer again and i misread. It's at 1.02. Now it's still higher than it's supposed to be AND it smells extremely strong. I'll rack to...

    What went wrong? FG: 1.012 - 1.014...

But I just did a gravity reading after 4 weeks in the primary & it's reading 1.20! I forgot to take an OG reading which pisses me off but what the hell happened? This batch may have sucked a little bit of vodka in it but after 4 weeks, I was about ready to bottle. Do I hold off a week or...

To carbonate or not to carbonate... Irish Stout

Point taken guys. Thanks for the quick advice. Once the money starts rolling in more steadily, I'll probably invest in kegging.

To carbonate or not to carbonate... Irish Stout

Yea to clarify, I want to make it smooth like Guinness... I know nitrogen is used to prime Guinness but at this point I've got no clue how to do that. Figured maybe this was an easy trial/error.

To carbonate or not to carbonate... Irish Stout

I brewed an all extract Irish Stout a few weeks ago and bottled last night. I love Guinness and must say, my Irish Stout tasted very similar. After priming/bottling, I sampled what was left in the bottling bucket. Wow I kind of wished I hadn't primed the batch... Maybe done 50/50 prime/no...

    When your beer freezes...

can it be saved? I've finished all but 2 bottles from my first batch. one is sitting for a special occasion and I had just put one in the mini fridge. Well my fiancee cranked the temp down and a bunch of my beers froze... The homebrewed bottle is a Grolsch style bottle and a bit of frozen...

    The story of a noob...

Thanks for the kind words. The beer has gotten so much better with age it's unbelievable. I have 4 Grolsch bottles left that I'm dying to finish!!! underwaterdan, I'm in Garden City in Nassau County. I'm actually out near Port Jeff everyonce in a while for work. The brew was a huge hit for...

Malic acid in apple juice, ok for Apfelwein?

I went to BJ's in my area and found Mott's, I think something like $19 for 6 gallons (only used 5). I can't find Tree Top around here for some reason. Local grocery stores don't carry it and the only 100% AJ I find in grocery stores is quite expensive.
  18. M

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I've got mine in a 6gal Better Bottle.
