Stovetop small batch in a 10 gal kettle?

I've done 2 1/2 gallon Biab on my stove in a 8 gal pot. The 2 large burners have 2500w elements and had no trouble bringing 3 1/2 gallons to a boil pretty quickly. Of course I was starting with 170* wort. I use ice in a plastic storage tub to cool in about 20 min. Occasionally if I'm pressed...

    BMB Depth Charge

Has anyone tried one of these? https://www.northernbrewer.com/collections/big-mouth-bubbler/products/big-mouth-bubbler-depth-charge Kind of spendy but looks useful if you do a lot of dry hopping. Wondering how much trub it would catch when pouring wort thru it.

    Gearing Down

Walmart had a few 2 and 2.5 gal glass containers, but I would have to figure out a lid/airlock strategy: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Anchor-Hocking-2-5-Gallon-Glass-Barrel-Jar/46887356 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Anchor-Hocking-69372MN-2-Gallon-Glass-Heritage-Jar/16486707 I was looking at the...

    Gearing Down

I brew 1 and 2 1/2 gallon batches. Years ( decades ) ago I brewed mostly 5 gallon batches. Quit for lack of enthusiasm because like you said I hate the cleaning and bottling part. Brewing smaller batches has given new life to the hobby for me. I like variety and trying new recipes so doing a 1...

    Anvil 7.5 gallon fermentation chamber

I have this mini fridge. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Magic-Chef-4-4-cu-ft-Mini-Refrigerator-with-Freezerless-Design-in-Stainless-Steel-HMAR440ST/207169805 It would be a tight fit but I think it would work. You will have to put a shelf on top of the compressor hump and that would give you 20...

Anyone have the Insignia 2-tap kegerator from best buy?

I'm thinking of picking up the digital control version of this kegerator. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-5-6-cu-ft-dual-tap-beverage-cooler-kegerator-black-stainless-steel/5733202.p?skuId=5733202#tab=buyingOptions?bof=openbox Does anyone know what size the gas and beer lines are? I'm...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I normally brew 2.5 gallon batches but just brewed a 1 gallon extract kit and loved it. Went smoothly and clean up was a breeze. Went with an extract kit to work thru the process wit a new kettle and fermentor. Next will be biab, just received 2 Wilser bags just waiting on grains. I think I am...

    Cold crashing

With that set up there is not enough surface area for the water to recover to a cold enough temp. Picture a wort chiller, with a large length of small diameter tubing the water is effectively in contact with cold air longer. Its all about the laws of thermodynamics. You could try a larger...

    One-Gallon Recipe Sources

All grain or extract? Austin home brew has a decent selection of 1 gal kits in extract. Northern Brewer has a few also. https://www.austinhomebrew.com/Brewers-Best-1-Gallon-Recipe-Kits_c_43.html Love2Brew one gallon kits https://www.love2brew.com/One-Gallon-Beer-Recipe-Kits-s/413.htm I...

New Brewer brewing from kits - what does software do for me?

I use Brewers friend for the features below. Scale recipes up or down. Convert extract to all grain biab. Convert LME to DME. There is more to it but I still consider myself a beginner and just playing around with it is helping me understand the brewing process. For me I find keeping...

    Star San

Question about using star san. I bottled up a batch today and made 5 gallons of sanitizer. After cleaning all the ferm gear I was thinking about dumping the sanitizer in my cleaned fermenter as I am going to brew another batch tomorrow. Will it still be effective? I remember reading somewhere...

Question about Temperature in my Chest Freezer

Thanks for replying. This looks like a great alternative for folks that don't have room for or do not want to invest in a ferm fridge or chamber. I think it could also be adapted to cool 2 or more fermenters at the same time and at different temps using a larger ice chest and multiple pumps...

SSbrewtech mini brew bucket base issue

This issue as well as there are no handles on the bucket are what is preventing me from getting one of these. The base is silicone so not much will adhere to it. I have been thinking about getting ss chest handles and using ss band clamps to attach them, haven't thought much about the base issue...
