    Bottling Beer from a Keg?

If I were you I would keg the beer then build yourself the DIY Beer Gun and use it to fill the bottles while the beer is still flat and then use the coopers sugar drops. The DIY beer gun works but foaming can be a hassle same with the Blichmann Beer Gun. I have both but have found it to be...

Hard to find beers in Seattle?

I have a buddy heading to Seattle this week. Does anyone know of some good beers that are available in that area that I cant find in Chicago? Any suggestions would be helpful! :mug: Ryan

    Belgian Black Patent

I think they are talking about Debittered black malt. It has a 500-600L but is not very bitter. I have used it and it works very well, plenty of color without all the bitter roasted taste...

New brew room in the works.

Insulation and walls all up with 2nd coat of mud on. One more coat and the walls will be ready to prime. Next up is the floor. All parts for the urinal is in just need to hang it once the walls are done.

    Blackboard Paint

Yes that is correct. After a few days rub chalk on the board completely covering it and wipe off. I used the same paint on my kegerator and it works very well.

    Barkey Mill?

I started with one of those when I went all grain since it is what I used for my mini mash. But after 25Lbs of grain and about 2 1/2 hours of cranking and cursing I manned up and ordered a barley mill. ;) Plus the crush on them is poor, it’s ok for extract/mini mash and specialty grains but too...

    Keggable beer ????

I find that to be true with most in not all the Belgians and big beers that I keg and bottle. I carbonate and condition in the keg for a good 2+ months then bottle some off the same keg with my beergun. After a few days in the bottle the bottled beer has a soother taste and feel. I love kegging...

    Keggable beer ????

If the recipe you are using lists pear extract be very careful or skip in all together. My first attempt at Duvel called for the pear extract and I went under the requested amount and it was still overwhelming.:o

    first high gravity beer

All my big beers I start out on the cool side and crank them up to the mid-high 70's and the end of fermentation. From what I read and the breweries I have visited most do it that way and I have never got any off flavors from that. Now you wouldn’t want to crank up the temp on a small pale but...

    my first starter

Depends on the beer gravity, batch size, use of stir plate and so on. But a 4L starter in a 5 gallon of a 1.050 beer is a lot, too much. Just like under pitching you can over pitch. Use Mr. Malty of any yeast calculator to determine the needed quantity. Decanting only removes the excess liquid...

Best way to get the beer clear?

Too much priming sugar and or the beer didn’t have time to finish fermenting. 7-8 days is a bit soon. Next batch watch you priming sugar levels and give the beer a good 2-3 weeks to ferment out first. It could also be poor bottle sanitization so I would double up on your sanitization for...

    Taking *some* sediment from primary

You want the beer as sediment free as possible going into the bottling bucket and bottles. The beer has more than enough yeast in suspension to get the job done. Some add a 2nd yeast for bottle conditioning for big beers but that is a different matter. What you did is correct, try to rack/siphon...

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

same here mine has been crashing sice day one. and now I get crashing and memory warnings. its still useable and a great app but just a pain in the ass to have to restart it over and over and a few times I lost my info when it crashed while adding new recipes. since I use both beersmith and this...

New brew room in the works.

Yea basements are nice up north especially in the summer when they are nice and cool. I wish I could make the room larger but I also do woodworking and I just lost about 1/3 my basement to this. I really need a new garage and if I ever pull the cash together for a new one it will be finished...

Dogfish Head 120 Min IPA Clone

So are you guys all doing this bad boy in buckets? Man brewing this in a conical was hard enough I wouldn’t want to try it in a bucket! :tank: Edit: I purchased my conical just for this beer and it was a wise move. I had zero issues with racking it using my mid port.

New brew room in the works.

I was thinking of the same thing. Down the road I may expand another bump out something small like 4X6 that I could heavily insulate and just use a small window AC to cool it. I think it’s totally possible since I was heating the old room with just a oil filled portable heater on the lowest...

New brew room in the works.

It’s my first batch using them. One of my buddies companies was doing something for bud and he found two cases from 2006 in the warehouse. Let’s just say bud doesn’t age well! But bud light taste better 5 years old than new to me! As for the bottles I bottle carbonated in them and opened two so...

    Group buy in Chicago?

Sweet! I am working fast on getting it completed enough to use and we will definitely get together. After the grain is delivered if we get a decent day I will be doing a brew outside if the room isn’t ready then. I will let you know the next time we brew no matter what. I have been twitchy its...
