    Dogs

Z'Dat a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever isn't it.

    Periods of abstinence

I always drank pretty much 3-6 pints a night, some week-end night, a few extas, but eventually my weight crept up to 290, I'm 6'4". I had to go to zero alcohol for a while last fall when I had neck issues and was taking pain meds... during those three weeks, I lost 14 lbs. A light bulb went on...

Your favorite Kolsch recipe with 34/70 and American hops?

Call it what you want, but I call it an "exception":

Your favorite Kolsch recipe with 34/70 and American hops?

The Kolsch malt is too malty for a Kolsch. I tried it. Stick with Pilsener malt.

Your favorite Kolsch recipe with 34/70 and American hops?

The Reinheitsgebot made an exception for wheat. Otherwise there would not be any hefeweizens.

    Hefeweizen idea

Totally agree here. It's got to have at least a bit of both.

Reusing Budweiser - A theoretical exercise in foolishness

I used a spare bottle of Bud Light to make a loaf of bread. What a mistake. It smelled like green apples.

Desperately trying to find way to connect wort chiller to sink...

The only drawback with this is that the swivel fitting on the sinkhead is VERY low flow, may be 2-gallons per minutes. If it works for you, then it's all good. Might not be enough for others. MC

10# CO2 filled this morning, exploded in my living room.

^^^ This. 100F+ in my garage, I've never had anything pop. A friend of mine did have a pressure disk burst but the CO2 tank was freshly filled, and he had it in the back of his car in high temps. MC

OxiClean took the tarnish off of conical (question)

From the first pics, that looked like beer stone to me. Get some Barkeeper's Friend, and some elbow grease with a plastic scrubby. MC

    Goodbye bad poppets

You have it easy with pins. 3 pins, 3-letters: OUT. 2 pins, 2-letters, IN. MC

    Goodbye bad poppets

Mark them with permanent marker or paint. Problem solved. MC

Can anyone help identify this fermenter?

    1) How are you gonna lift it when it's full? 2) How are you gonna syphon from it, there's no lip to put a carboy cap. Syphoning will have to be done "old school". If you are really set on using it, soak the inside with two measures of fragrance free oxy-clean and warm water, for about a week...

    Knox Gelatin and Infections

You CAN boil Knox gelatin. However, do NOT put the gelatin directly in boiling water, it will clump up and not dissolve. Get the right amount of water into a sauce pan, immediately sprinkle the geleatin, slowly heat to a boil while stirring. MC

    How to remove labels?

When I was bottling, I'd keep a clean garbage can on the deck full of water and fragrance-free oxyclean. Any used bottle would be rinsed, and then put in the garbage can and filled up with the the water/oxyclean solution. At bottling time, I'd pull out the required number of bottles, and I'd...

    grinder/stuffer recommendation?

Refilling for 1/4 of a casing if a bit annoying - that's why I upgraded mine. Mine is in the garage over a fridge but the attic is not out of the question! :D MC

    grinder/stuffer recommendation?

LEM products are solid. I would NOT go with a 5# hopper because a sausage casing holds MORE than 5-lbs. So you'd have to knot, cut, knot and start over again for the next link. MC

    Flow trouble

I usually whirlpool my wort for about 5 minutes, and let it sit for another 5 minutes, and I've never had a problem with the flow. Mind sharing a picture of your system? Might help us diagnose. MC

    Counterflow Chiller Questions

Let me rephrase: You should flow downwards TO the pump, and up FROM the pump out. For one thing, a mag-drive pump just won't prime if it's higher than the level of the liquid. MC
