Water Treatment with BIAB and using too many Campden tablets.

The 11 gallons in a couple hours wasn't a correct statement. If I am collecting on a resting system I can get 4-5 gallons in an hour, but that is including the 2-3 gallons that was in the tank. Once it is down to a trickle I would bet it is closer to no more than a couple gallons an hour. If I...

Water Treatment with BIAB and using too many Campden tablets.

Thanks Russ and Martin for the input. This is great information. I do have one more question regarding chloramine. Without sounding flippant, if that is the biggest or only real benefit of using the $20 each carbon block filters, replacing the "Old Technology" filters that remove 95.%+ of...

Water Treatment with BIAB and using too many Campden tablets.

Thanks for the advice Russ. Yes I am on Omaha water, from our West, Platte River water treatment plant. We have three plants in different areas of the county and you can actually be on any of them as they are interconnected. Our water utility company told me we are normally on this one when I...

Water Treatment with BIAB and using too many Campden tablets.

I am not actually sure exactly what my filters have in them without looking it up, but I believe I have two carbon pre-filters. Water enters my house through a whole house carbon filter (changed 1 month ago) then a Morton water softener. These are before the 5 stage RO system which I have...

Water Treatment with BIAB and using too many Campden tablets.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will dump half of the water I added it to and mix it with unaltered RO water.

Water Treatment with BIAB and using too many Campden tablets.

I have a couple quick water questions: 1. I use RO water. When building up my water for 3 vessel brewing I use different additions for strike and sparge water based on either Beersmith or BrunWater. I have pretty much converted to mostly BIAB. I am wondering how that changes the way I add...

BIAB Water additons in general and in BeerSmith.

Thanks, you are absolutely correct. I had medium body, not medium body BIAB. Sometimes it's the simple things that get you. After looking at a recipe for an hour it's easy to skip something. I guess I need an error check that says if your equipment profile is BIAB then your mash s/b, LOL...

Too good of a deal on kegs?

Mask the SS and paint the tops and bottoms with cheap spray paint. This will seal them and they won't get all over your hands any more (and they will look great). I have done this to three with great results.

BIAB Water additons in general and in BeerSmith.

I have BeerSmith 3 and have tried to use the water profiler in the recipe creation tools. I have a BIAB profile and it works fine for the brewing process. But, when I try to use the water tab in recipe creation to add water salts to my RO (distilled) base water it splits them into Strike and...

Blichmann QuickCarb (New from HomebrewCon 2016)

I have used my a few times and I have never really had the carbonic bite issue to the point of it being a problem. Maybe the smaller bubbles are better for this. I do usualy let it sit for a few hour before drinking. It is better in a day or two. I use a 2 micron stone and found that I have to...

Too good of a deal on kegs?

True they do have an emergency over pressure release, which could be called a valve. But the word valve typically means something you can open. When the vendors advertize them, they do say no prv as the accepted wording. Good info, but splitting hairs.

Too good of a deal on kegs?

This is an OK and fairly normal deal for used Pin Lock kegs. Adventures in Homebrewing (homebrewing.org) is also offering them at $35. They do occasionally have "Loose Handle/Bottom" pin lock kegs for $27.99 and Ball Lock w/PRV ones for $30. They don't have either right now though. AIB does...

Failed to test mash pH - what now?

Typically we worry about PH during mashing and not so much during the boil because if it was good during the mash it should carry forward to the boil. Water adjustments are done to your strike water and sparge water so you have efficient extraction of your grains and a good PH going into the...

    DIY Bottle Cleaner

I built a bottle washer to use with the same pump I use for my keg washer. It took me about 2 hours to build it and maybe $20 additional in PVC parts. It will do 24 bottles at a time and fits in my laundry sink. It works great. One of the reasons it is great is because once I am done with the...

DIY keg/carboy washer... too foamy, even w Saniclean. Advice?

Tonight I built a bottle washer to use with the same pump. It took me 2 hours to build it and maybe $15 in PVC parts. It will do 24 bottles at a time and fits in my laundry sink. It worked great. I created a build video and will post it to my YouTube Channel soon (youtube.com/c/timtrabold)...

DIY keg/carboy washer... too foamy, even w Saniclean. Advice?

I have the same pump, also from Menards. I just built my washer Saturday and used Dollar Tree Oxi during testing. I made a build video on my YouTube Channel - I did the PVC cap drill method. It also would have foamed over the bucket, had I let it. I have read people say that dishwasher soap...

I made a Keg / Carboy washer out of a utility pump.

I had a 1/4 hp utility pump lying around. I bought it in December when I had water in my basement while I was waiting 6 weeks for the waterproofers to put drain tile and a sump pump in. Since I hope to never use it again as a water mitigator I decided to re-purpose it into a Keg washer. It...

    Harvested yeast question.

I brewed Sunday. After crashing and decanting I pitched the starter Sunday night. I started fermenting at 65 and lowered it to 62 after a day. There was a good layer of kreusan after 24 hours. After 48 hours it was really bubbling in the blow off (it never went past the headspace in the...

I just built an inline carbonator, it works great!

I have a.5 micron stone and I have found since this thread was last updated, that I need to add 5 lbs pressure to the carbonating chart pressure. I let it go for an hour and check it. It has worked great doing this. This is interesting to think about. I don't know why this would matter...
