    My first lager!

Thanks Stone! I have probably been under pitching my yeast this whole time... Thats gonna end here.. Although it looks like If I use K. Troesters stir plate calculations.. I can't get there at all with a 1L bottle... Jamil's gets me there in 2 steps if I use 2 Vials... Anyway.. thanks for the...

    My first lager!

OK.. So I'm hoping you all will allow me to run through the information I have gathered here to see if I have this process down right. This will be aprox my 6th batch of all grain, so I think I'm starting to really get the hang of this. I thought I would kick it up a notch and try my hand at a...

Any home brew clubs in the Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Area?

Wish I would have known about it sooner. What is their meeting schedule? I might make the next one as Funky Buddah is really dragging their feet.

Any home brew clubs in the Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Area?

Brother Tuckers is a hidden gem. Beer is good and so is the food. Its right on the corner of Atlantic and A1A on the south side (well about a 100 feet west of the corner) you can easily pass it if you're not looking. You'll need to park out back, but it's really nice. One of my local...

Any home brew clubs in the Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Area?

We are like right in the middle of both of those.. Although they both sound fun, PBD seems like they have more events. And Due South is pretty nice place to meet. I know the Buddah is trying to get a club started, Which I would probably join. I drive there fairly regularly as is for...

    What went wrong?

The water was not a star San mix... I dumped out the star San mix... And added clean water. I have a 6 gallon kettle so I can't get enough water in there to boil down to 5 gallons. I'm looking into getting a bigger kettle, but for now... I gotta work with what I have... Using the water tool...

    What went wrong?

Thanks Everyone... Definitely going to let it sit longer. As far as the oil is concerned, I'm not sure that is it (but could be) i soaked the bottles in b-brite overnight and then hand rinsed them. I'll let it sit another couple of weeks and see how it turns out... hopefully that is all that...

    What went wrong?

Hey guys, So I brewed a "Cream of three crops" type beer a couple of weeks ago. Everything went perfect. Mash temps stabilized perfectly, hit my OG right on per beersmith and sanitized the crap out of everything. Something however is not right.... So full disclosure.. I bottled it a...

Where to find 1 Gallon Jugs

Hey guys... Is it cheaper to get 5 1 gallon jugs or just a 5 gallon carboy for aging? I have a 6 gallon Carboy that my mead has been sitting in for a month and a half, but Im ready to rack it from the secondary to another vessel for bulk aging... My local publix has 3 liter glass jugs filled...

    Is this infected?

Johnny - He meant size of the Krausen. s1080 - I pitched last night and checked it out this morning. So 10-12 hours afterwards. It just kind of shocked me as I have never seen this before in any of my beers. You think it could be the water separating from the wort and floating to the...

    Is this infected?

I'm using a cream ale yeast (wlp080) and I added a gallon if water to my carboy and then racked 4 gallons from my kettle on top of the water after the boil... LHBS guy said the yeast has a very minimal fermentation. You think this is it? Or am I infected? Or did I just not stir enough...

Any tips on adding fruit to mead?

So LHBS did not have what you suggested.. they just advised me that the alcohol content should kill anything on the fruit... Which makes sense.. I bought some fresh oranges, dipped them in star san and then threw them into the secondary and racked on top of it. Hope that will be ok. My...

Any tips on adding fruit to mead?

Does the fruit require any sanitation when being added to the secondary? I'd be afraid of adding some nasties to my sanitized mead.
