You have Dark Lord? I have 2011 Darkness. Let's trade!

So, as the title says, I am looking to trade a bottle of 2011 Darkness for a bottle of Dark Lord. Open to vintage of Dark Lord, except 2011, because I have that one already. If you have some to trade, let me know. Thanks!

    WTB - Digital temp controller

Nobody has one, huh? Bummer. Figured I would bump this one more time before I buy one from learntobrew.com for $69.99 shipped. Unless someone knows where to get one pre-wired cheaper?

    WTB - Digital temp controller

Looking for a Johnson digital temp controller. Got promised one from someone locally on craigslist and then found out it was sold to someone else... :( I live in the Twin Cities area, so if you're local and have one that I could pick up, even better! Please let me know what you have and...

    First beer without a kit

In order to be sure primary fermentation is done, you have to take at least 2 final gravity readings over the span of a couple of days and make sure that they are the same. If your final gravity changes, it's not done fermenting. Patience is key... I let most of my beers sit for at least 3...

    Beginners advice.

+1 to everything that's been said already, and here are a couple other tips: It's usually a pretty good idea to use bottled water for your first few batches so you can rule that out later in case there's any off flavors, and regular spring water is just fine. Another excellent tool is a...

    Using Tap Water

It is important to treat your water if it has any chlorine/chloramines in it. I learned that after experimenting on a batch of cream ale when I had been using bottled water. Saint Paul city water has both chlorine and chloramine in it, and I didn't treat it before brewing. It now has a...

    Second run with the Keg

I'm sure you could clean the o-rings in some Oxy Clean or something, but why not just make a quick trip to your LHBS and save the worry since you're planning on replacing them anyway?

Time to step up - help needed!

Oh, and as far as fermentors, you can always get some food grade buckets (cheap or free from restaurants) or buy some Better Bottles instead of glass carboys, and then you can have full batches fermenting without having to worry about breaking the glass carboys. And as long as you buy your...

Time to step up - help needed!

Or just use dry yeast packets and rehydrate before pitching. Honestly, I don't even bother rehydrating most times I pitch a packet of dry yeast. Way cheaper and just as good as liquid yeast for most styles.

    This sucks 1st time bottling

You already mentioned you were going to pick up some Oxyclean, but just so you know, it can be used for FAR more than removing labels. It works wonders for cleaning carboys and fermentors, and more! Worst case, even if you didn't use it for anything else, you can still use it to do laundry! It's...

How do you choose specialty grains?

"The Brewmaster's Bible" also goes through the different kinds of hops, grains, malts and adjuncts and stuff pretty nicely. It's slightly dated, but it covers quite a bit and has some recipes included. Can get it for around 6-7 bucks used on Amazon...

    old breweries

Schell's Brewery in New Ulm, MN. Been in existence since 1860. Second oldest family owned brewery in the country. Apparently they made near-beer, candy and other stuff during prohibition. http://www.schellsbrewery.com/history.php They make some pretty good stuff, and still one of the few...

Questions about relocating with beer fermenting.

Once again, proving the theory that RDWHAHB is the best philosophy to live by. Beer is tough stuff. Glad it turned out for ya!

    Stalled or Fermentation Done?

Always gotta be one person to take things super literally... :p Correction for the peanut gallery: "Hydrometer is 'one of the easiest ways' to tell when your fermentation is complete." Added bonus is that you can taste your beer sample after you test the gravity and see how it is...

Whoops, Found an Oatmeal Stout in the closet

^ +1 to accidental (or laziness) 6 months (or more! :o ) in primary. May not win competitions after a 6 month primary but the beer turns out just fine. 2 months is nothing! As long as your sanitation is good and your airlock worked the way it was meant to, it will end up a clearer beer and...
