    How many paper towels

i use regular kitchen towels and always do laundry on the same day as a brew day. I do BIAB and the easiest way for me to wash the bag is to give it a rinse and throw it in the washer with the rest of the laundry

    Reducing ABV

in the words of ice cube's dad from friday "put some water on that damn sh**!" ;) I haven't tried adding a big amount like 3 gallons, but a couple batches ago, I brewed a beer that missed my target volume by a lot & had a high OG. I added half a gallon of water (2.5 gal batch) and the beer came...

    Grain on a plane

I've bought grain and yeast and brought it on a flight before. Shouldn't be a problem. I think the only brewing items you'll be stopped from bringing on are cleaners especially liquid ones. You'll be fine. My mom wanted to see what brewing was about and lives on a different island from me, I...

    Going to Munich! Any suggestions?

I was in frankfurt a couple months ago and loved it there. I had some Bavarian Hefeweizen for the first time, and now I can see why a lot of brewers make it. Seriously good stuff and I think it's one of the best session beers for a hot day.

    Sack squeezing and haze

I squeeze, maybe I'm not doing it aggressive enough lol

    Sugar source for bottling?

    Glass Carboys are soooo awesome!

Yay for glass carboys! I personally like em. Almost moved to stainless steel brew buckets, but I eventually decided against it. It's nice to see how fermentation is coming along :)

Benefits of letting mash rest for longer than required for conversion?

There's nobody else to get grains from where I'm at, so I'm pretty much stuck. I could get a grain mill which I know would improve efficiency but I sorta already have my method down and I'm comfortable with it. 90 mins gives me time to take care of other stuff around the house or play video...

    Why I can't get head?

I asked my ex wife that a lot after the first year :D

Anyone get upset with a streak of bad beer?

I've honestly only brewed bad batches when I've tried to make a 'crowd pleaser' beer which is honestly the kinds of beer I don't generally drink anyway. Since then I've only stuck with making IPA's and Pale ale's since that's what I like. Though trying a hefe atm since I do like those kinds of...

Benefits of letting mash rest for longer than required for conversion?

Doing a 90 minute mash on average raised my mash efficiency by close to 10% (was getting 60-65% efficiency just double crushing). Hit 70-75% consistently now.

Newbie, making one gallon all grain beer

I had problems with that at first. Now I double crush my grain, and I mash for 90m instead of 60. Brought my efficiency up from 55% to 75ish and have been doing it that way ever since.

    Fermentation differences amongst different styles.

I'm noticing that one of the overlooked things for active fermentation is water. I've had explosive fermentations with US-05 using bottled spring water, but they were pretty tame overall using filtered tap water. Last friday was my first wheat beer (hefeweizen with wyeast 3068), and it didn't...

Hefeweizen with 10-15% headspace, take liquid out or leave it?

almost day 3, there was slight blowoff but not much. I really expected this yeast to be violent but it's pretty similar to US-05. I think the water has something to do with it? I had some violent US-05 fermentations using bottled spring water, but pretty tame when using the filtered tap water.

Hefeweizen with 10-15% headspace, take liquid out or leave it?

almost a full day in, honestly this fermentation isn't as vigorous as I was expecting (was expecting a volcano or something lol). It does smell delicious though. Does this yeast reach its peak on day 3 like US-05? I did use filtered tap water, which in my experience, has fermentations with much...

    How did you start...?

Started off with a NB 1 gallon kit, and it turned out to be one of the best beers I've had, immediately hooked. The downside? 1 gallon batch = 8 to 10 beers which is easily gone within an hour if you're sharing it with your buddies haha. Upped my batches to 2.5g which is a good size for me. I...

Hefeweizen with 10-15% headspace, take liquid out or leave it?

Good to know, it's a jar that can hold 8 cups (half gal) is that good enough?

Hefeweizen with 10-15% headspace, take liquid out or leave it?

Ok cool I'll probably leave it. More to drink:)

Hefeweizen with 10-15% headspace, take liquid out or leave it?

It's at 21.11C (70F), I wanted to get some banana flavors for this one :) Blowoff is probably a 100% scenario if I leave it like this, but was wondering if that's the best thing for the beer itself? I read somewhere that if there's a strong blowoff, a lot of the yeast blows off which makes the...

Hefeweizen with 10-15% headspace, take liquid out or leave it?

Hey guys, first time doing a hefe and I hear how explosive the fermentations can get for them. So after chilling the wort and transferring to the carboy, I don't have much headspace at all. I have a blowoff set up so should it be ok? I can't babysit it this weekend, so I'm a little nervous...
