    Tube & Shell Heat Exchanger

How DARE you! You violated my photobucket! :D Haven't been able to properly roll out the pics with a narrative...

    New Rig Plans

Not too shabby! The only thing I can see is that you are forced to recirc through your RIMS or CFC if you want to whirlpool. I have done this as a means to sterilize the CFC and still got good flow, so maybe you are going to do it that way.

    Tube & Shell Heat Exchanger

And here's what I got done this weekend...I bored out the water in/out with a 5/8 HSS drill bit. The fitting that was in there tapered down to about 1/4" on the inside, kind of like a flare coupler. So, I had to open it up or the heat exchanger would barely cool. The finish inside was...

    Tube & Shell Heat Exchanger

And here is where I am at so far....the holes are pretty concentric...I kind of eyeballed things on the mill and it shows. But hey, I'm a novice ;) If I could do it again, I would have put the end caps together and drilled them simultaneously.....but that would have made a difficult job next to...

    Tube & Shell Heat Exchanger

Now that I had the ends off, I had to decide what size and configuration of tubing I would use. I did lots of surface area and volume calculations. On a whim I bought some 3/8" SS tube, thinking it would be the best size to prevent clogs. Later, I changed my mind and thought that 1/4" would give...

    Tube & Shell Heat Exchanger

I had to cut off the ends so I could properly drill the holes; I just didn't have the capability to *safely* drill a 15" long cylinder. Plus, the sight gauge had a pair of stainless steel balls inside (LOL) that I had to get rid of. I have a Rage 2 chop saw that is just awesome, I highly...

    Tube & Shell Heat Exchanger

I also got a sight glass that I am going to try and incorporate...it is also heavily built and made from 316SS.

    Tube & Shell Heat Exchanger

So, after several years of brewing and using a whole myriad of different equipment...I have come to this project. It has been a long time coming, because it requires tools that are beyond the average DIY'er. However, I am not the average DIY'er. ;) Over the last few years, my interests have...

    Heated Grant

Heating water is definitely where you want the big guns. Of course, maintaining temps requires something less. Yep...insulation is awesome....the trick is getting something that looks classy.

All stainless (weld free & JB weld free) heatstick design on the cheap

Keep an eye on it....I wouldn't trust a heatstick with a void in it. You will still get condensation on the inside of the pipe. Not to mention, heating and cooling causes the fittings to expand/contract and your watertight properties can change. At least you have a GFCI!

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

These might make better fermenters than kettles....but then again, maybe not if they rust.....

Stainless welding in the Pasadena, CA area

Craigslist is a powerful tool....especially in populated areas like yours.

    The bad things about e-brewing

Price is a big downside....possibility of electrocution increases as well....but there are risks with any method. In the end, you have to do a little ORM. Semper Fi ;)

    stainless steel bucket fermentor

LOL....yes...pots work. I've done it in the dead of winter and just left the pot on the cold cement floor....no chiller needed, and the beer came out fine. If you do it this way, be sure to leave the lid on for a minute or so and the steam will sterilize the top. Even though the pot is contained...

    Keggle Nastyness

A file should do the trick...or a dremel.

    Colde Plate Wort Chiller

As long as it is cleanable, I see no reason why it won't work. Alternatively, you could use the herms in the BK, then use the cold plate to run your coolant through...leaving the wort still in the BK...which is probably best for preventing infection and gives more time for gravity to settle...

    Heated Grant

That element is a beast...I'd consider going smaller. Also, a grant can work as a filter to some extent....you can have a coarse screen in there and see if it gets clogged...not the case with inline enclosed type filters

    Modular Electric Brewery

Dude....how in the heck did you get the rubber off the cornies? I tried everything, even an angle grinder, and it just resulted in billows of foul white smoke and a black gritty mess....I finally gave up so I could reassess....my garage smells like a drag race.

    New Bern Homebrew

I'll definitely do that....I live 2 miles south of there and love the Beer Army! I saw the sign for this new HomeBrew Store, but didn't think it was open yet.
