Recommendations for some sort of whirlpool/temp control for my setup

I like how I'm brewing a lot Doing it with a Northern Brewer 15 gallon 1.2 megapot https://www.northernbrewer.com/products/15-gal-megapot-1-2 an Edelmetal burner and custom stainless basket (instead of a bag) from Chad at Arbor fab. The ID of the Megapot is 15 7/8, the OD of the basket is 14...

    Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale

Brewed this Sunday. Did use a starter, and since I didn't do the decoction added 1/2 lb melanoidin per 5 gallons. Edited to add, went into fermenter at 1.075, came out at 1.020 nailing an ABV of 7.3 (just perfect for my preferences) As usual, I tasted the fermented beer before...

How I brew ten gallons in a fifteen gallon Kettle BIAB

Thanks for the comment. I enjoy brewing, but I enjoy drinking it more. Only had one ten gallon batch that took a while to get gone. It's simple, just don't brew that recipe again.

    Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale

Thanks for your input Since I BIAB over propane, I wouldn't say I have tight control over mash temperature. However I do have tight control over fermentation temp. I will keep it in mind and lean in that direction with the mash temp.

How I brew ten gallons in a fifteen gallon Kettle BIAB

After having a bag break on me, I had a stainless basket made. When I pull the basket out (with a pulley, that sucker is heavy) I first let it drain for 20/30 minutes I then swing it over to a cooler with a stainless grate in the top - just happened to have it on hand and it makes a perfect...

    Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale

Bought the grains, ekg and wlp028 for this scaled up to 10.3 gallon batch. I keg and do BIAB. Going to make a starter (first time ever.) Also, I secondary in the keg. Going for no decoction and going to mash around 152-153. Brewsmith is showing 7.9% ABV estimated, which wouldn't hurt my...

    Mash thickness effect

I'm doing 1.3 qt per lb and use a large whisk to keep things moving. And I just mash for an hour. I just figured I would try it, and see how it did. Had no clue about conversion etc. I am BIABasket and put some roughly 150 degree water through the basket and push a lot of the liquid out...

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

After three years, this is the first earwig I have seen in my beer, not to mention the first earwig I have ever seen. So, I got the plugs with the brushes on the end, and couldn't believe the crud that came out of the taps on the brushes, so rotated brushes into the dishwasher after rinsing...

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

Nope, wasn't wearing my mask! However, I never dreamed there was so much crud inside my taps! Makes sense of course, but I had never thought of it. Bought the plugs that JJinMD recommended from amazon. So, the brushes on the first ones put in came out with yucky brown on them, so I put in...

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

Just ordered plugs from one of the links suggested. While I am not very concerned about one earwig in close to 4 years, I cannot imagine serving a beer to guests and them finding an earwig in their beer. I'm not going to lose any sleep over this, but if one of my guests found an earwig in...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you have seven Kegs on hand (3 in the Keezer) that have beer in them and buy two more kegs so that you can have more beer on hand and won't have to brew outside when it's more than 90 degrees!

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

Thanks for the links, I've never had a problem previously, had never heard of tap covers/plugs now I have a simple resolution

How I brew ten gallons in a fifteen gallon Kettle BIAB

I'm going to look into that. I haven't used anything because I'm trying to follow the beer purity laws of Germany :<)

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

I don't think they reside in your ear. I have lived here for 75 years and have never seen or heard of them previously. I thought to show it to my wife and she knew immediately what it was. Searching on earwig indicates that traps are often made of tuna cans filled with beer. They are attracted...

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

I know, I have a number of glassware to choose from. After almost fifty years of drinking beer, I have found it really tastes better from a copper tankard. I have three copper tankards, always going to chose one to drink a brew from. Actually, there's a lot of glassware in the same freezer...

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

I have never even thought about that before. Didn't know they even made them. I would need to have something visible so I wouldn't forget they were there, or I would be fishing them out of my beer. It's something I will look into.

ugh, found an earwig in my mug

Makes me feel better about what's left in the keg. I was going to drink it anyhow, but now I'll feel comfortable serving it to guests! Appreciate your comment!

How I brew ten gallons in a fifteen gallon Kettle BIAB

it's a bit thick, but the extra grains get me to ABV 7%, or so which is right where I like my ABV. and 1.065 +- specific gravity into the fermenter which also is about where I like my SG With no extract or sugar. I've thought about going for a 20 gal kettle, but the increased cost, weight and...
