Help me out here, please. Trying to figure out the cold side and kegging.

Thanks I had heard of a tilt but hadn't heard of an Ispindel. Will check it out.

Damn it, same brew has gone skunky

More like cardboard. I'm beginning to expect oxidation also. Seems like that is about the only thing left.

Thanks guys for helping me get further down this path. Excellent posts to get me in the right direction.

Help me out here, please. Trying to figure out the cold side and kegging.

I BIAB and do primary fermentation in a Speidel Fermenter. I always keg after 14 days and secondary in the keg. I have no idea how to check if the fermentation is over, I have always figured it would be over in 14 days. I don't bump up the carbonation, I just hook the keg up to about 11lbs of...

Damn it, same brew has gone skunky

Have used those same hops multiple times and on other beers. Magnum makes an excellent bittering hop. Magnum I often use for bittering hops. Hallertauer I often use with german styles of beer. I tend to like malty brews and use less hops than many would enjoy Smells good, looks good (maybe a...

Damn it, same brew has gone skunky

nah, same hops as always. I guess it might have become contaminated, I've never had a contaminated batch. I thought it always smelled. Marzen with Magnum 29 LBs Type # %/IBU 11 lbs 8.0 oz Pilsner (2 Row) Ger (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 39.0 % 9 lbs 4.0 oz Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) Grain 2 31.4...

Damn it, same brew has gone skunky

Thanks for your input. No UV that I'm aware of. I say skunky, but it's developed a flavor whang that I don't enjoy. Looks good, smells good, taste is not for me. Other than more age, I cannot tell any difference in handling or brewing which is much the same as the last five plus brews of the...

Damn it, same brew has gone skunky

I've been brewing this same recipe for a couple of years. This is the longest I have let one sit. I've had a couple of brews where the mash temp got away due to thermometer hanging. But was within range and gravities were fine. This was a modified Marzan. Beer tasted fine, looks great. No...

    Keezer Lesson Learned...

I feel left out I just have 3 each 5 gallon kegs. Works for me. My problem is not taking kegs in/out but using a 10 lb CO2 cylinder. Some of them are too tall to fit where you can see the dials. (CO2 sits on a smaller section where the compressor is on the keezer) A tall cylinder can fit in...

    Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale

OK, Kegged 30 days ago and now this is starting to come along nicely. Did some tasting at intervals an it was kinda bleh. However, now this is becoming something I'm glad I brewed. Definite notes of caramel and a very smooth beer. Mostly just me drinking it so ten gallons of something that...

Please tell me how to use an induction burner with BIAB

You guys and IslandLizard have given me a lot to think about. I do appreciate your responses, it's very encouraging to know that you guys are doing 20 Gal kettles on the IC3500. I'm also thinking that right under where I brew runs a 3 wire w/ground #6 cable going to the hot tub that's on a...

Please tell me how to use an induction burner with BIAB

I am going to look into that model and may well give that one a try. I had been thinking along these lines, and this past week my induction burner died, so I'm thinking might as well get one that will work inside and outside. When it's cold or really hot I don't brew outside anyhow:D I live in...

Please tell me how to use an induction burner with BIAB

I do realize that the wort around the basket is 8/10 degrees different than the grain bed. Currently, I ignore that and try for an average temperature in the basket, with stirring. I don't think I will go with recirculating, too many issues for too little payoff. However, the induction burner...

Please tell me how to use an induction burner with BIAB

How much is under the basket? 3/4 inch under the basket, but another 1/2 inch to basket bottom if you exclude the basket framework.

Please tell me how to use an induction burner with BIAB

Please tell me how you are using an induction burner and help me understand if it's a good way for me to go. I would like to look into this further. I use a stainless steel basket and a 15 gal Megapot by Northern Brewing I'm looking for anything that makes a better brew and is a relatively...

Recommendations for some sort of whirlpool/temp control for my setup

After taking all this in, I'm thinking I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. I enjoy it, and I really enjoy the beer I brew. There's an old saying that may well apply here "if it ain't broke don't fix it!' I sincerely appreciate all of the inputs and consideration. This makes a lot of sense.

Recommendations for some sort of whirlpool/temp control for my setup

Hadn't planned on heating the wort. The problem I have been most concerned about is the variation in temperature throughout the kettle. I have been taking it in different spots and trying to hit an average. I was thinking that recirculating the wort would smooth out the temperature and I could...

Recommendations for some sort of whirlpool/temp control for my setup

3/4" clearance but basically has another 1/2" if you exclude basket framework. The outlet is about 2" above the bottom of the brew kettle.

Recommendations for some sort of whirlpool/temp control for my setup

Thanks for your responses. I am currently not recirculating in any manner, it is an excellent point that I need to recirculate in the grain bed. I will look carefully at each suggestion before deciding which way to jump. Any other suggestions are also welcome ;<)

Recommendations for some sort of whirlpool/temp control for my setup

Thank you for your reply. I understand what you are saying. Please understand that this is about the only area I can upgrade. I have the funds to do an upgrade and have looked at buying another system and just like how I am brewing. I am retired, and have the funds readily available I...
