    Keggle Mash Tun - Sparging

First all grain brew this weekend, so forgive the stupid question. I have the capability to direct fire the mash tun, but if I batch sparge, what is the typical heat loss over a 60 minute mash? I have a somewhat decent lid for it, but I know it wont keep the heat. Do I just fire it up every...

My first all-grain batch. What do I make?

I am testing out my brand new all grain system this weekend. I have never brewed all grain before. I am using a 3 tier gravity with 3 keggles, 3 burners, false bottoms, etc... So, what do I make? I want to make something that is forgiving, as it will be my first all grain batch. I...

Mash in Keggle - False Bottom vs. amount of mash water

I plan to do my first all grain batch this weekend, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. I have a SABCO false bottom that sits a couple inches above the bottom of the keg (as it is supposed to). Therefore, approximately 1 to 2 gallons of water exists beneath it. (maybe only 1, I...

Any Experience with the KAB4 Burner?

It doesnt really kick the flames out around the edges. SInce it is a keggle, the bottom rim tends to hold the flames back. It does get pretty hot. I mean, that thing fires up like crazy. After I posted that message, I saw some other comments on the KAB4, which indicate that the model I...

Any Experience with the KAB4 Burner?

I bought this burner the other day for use with my Keggle. I tried to test it out over the weekend, and I was rather dissappointed. Just to gauge its limits, I tried to boil 12 gallons of pretty cold water. It took about 2 hours to get boiling, and used a half tank of gas. Im pretty...

Cheap way to strain pellet hops our of brew kettle?

Are those hop sacks (or paint strainers) reusable? Can you wash them out or do you have to toss it?

Cheap way to strain pellet hops our of brew kettle?

This all sounds great, but my dip tube is smack dab in the middle of keggle. Therefore, if I do the whirl pool technique, then I will be sucking up all the nasty. I suppose I could move my dip tube closer to the edge.

what is this famous whilpool thing, and how do I do it?

Cheap way to strain pellet hops our of brew kettle?

I have read that many people dont like to use the hopsack. Im not sure why... I dont see why I couldnt just put all my hops in musilin bags and pluck them out before I chill the wort. I use an immersion chiller. All I want is to not have a ton of hops in my fermentor (cheaply).

Cheap way to strain pellet hops our of brew kettle?

I have a converted keg for a boil kettle. What is a good way to keep the pellet hops out of my fermentor without having to go the route of an expensive false bottom? Is there a good manifold design? How about a SS braid? What about just straining the wort as it exits (through a...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

That was great man! Really like the pictures. Many of us noobs benefit so much when people take the time to post up pics and describe their process in detail. Thanks!

    Is this contamination?

It absolutely does not taste like Satans taint. It actually tasted great. I bottled it up. We will see if it shows up on top of the bottles.

    Is this contamination?

I hopped with pellets, and I put the pellets in the musilin bag. Here is another pic.

    Is this contamination?

After a week in the secondary, I had a few of these white chunkies. Now after 2 weeks in the secondary, I have a bunch of these white chunkies. I dry hopped and put some oak chips in a musilin bag. I steamed both. Is this batch shot?

    Concept for a fermenter

The purpose of using the pressure cooker is simply because it is stainless steel, and I can weld it to the top of the keg, and it allows me to have a sealable lid to put on/off of the keg. The intent is not to build pressure, as I would install a hole for an airlock. Essentially, I just want...

    Concept for a fermenter

I was planning on putting in a 1/2" ID ball valve. That way, I could simply boil a little water in the fermenter prior to putting the wort in there, to be sure it is nice and sanitized, and be able to pour everything out easily. Is that what you mean by "dump valve?" What do you mean by a...

    Concept for a fermenter

I need to make a fermentor large enough to ferment a 10 gallon batch. Here is what I was thinking. Cut the bottom off of a small pressure cooker, and TIG weld the top of the pressure cooker pot to the top of a keg (with an approximate 6" diameter hole cut). Saw off the handle and drill a...

What is the best All-Grain book/reference?

Im finally going all grain. There are many books out there, most of which have 1) general homebrow info, 2)a section on all grain, and 3) tons of recipies. I am looking for something that is specifically geared toward all grain, or at least very heavy in all grain info. Let me know if you...

Need Opions from you pros: Weldless fittings and homemade siteglass

I just so happen to have a 5 month old who has grown out of his newborn nipples. If I decide to go weldless, I will give those a shot. Thanks. ("I have nipples Greg, can you milk me?")
