Water Chemistry in small batch BIAB

Here's a post I asked a similar question. I got Martin Brungard to chime in. Check it out. Small Batch Boil-Off & Its Affect on Ion Concentration https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=563212 I will tell you that in my own experiments I've been WAY more satisfied with the beers brewed...

Brew in a Basket...anybody try one of these?

    Unhelpful and unproductive comment. Self-edited.

Kettle size and design for eBIABasket

No problem. Happy to help. I had the basket designed at ArborFab by Chad. He did a great job. Definitely recommend you getting in touch with him when you get to the point where you want to have something made. Let me know if you need any other info or input. I really like my system. It works...

Kettle size and design for eBIABasket

It's a great city. I'm a transplant, but I really like it here. There's always lots going on. The beer scene is great too. Northside has it's own brewery now called Urban Artifact. You can check them out online.

Small Batch Boil-Off & Its Affect on Ion Concentration

Just wanted to check in on this topic. I've brewed about 10 batches since the last post in this thread. All 2.5gal batches using the method(s) outlined in this thread. I use city water when I can, but many have been made with distilled water. I use phosphoric acid to adjust the pH in the mash...

    Cincinnati bulk grain?

Listermann Brewing does 20% off for sack purchases. I've found their prices are fair. Not the best ever, but good. Also on the NKY Brewer's Guild Club Facebook page I read just today that there will be a bulk grain buy soon via Braxton Brewing. Check there.

Transition from 1 gallon AG brewing to 3 or 5 gallon brewing

I did 10gal for 4+ years. Then due to back surgery I had to downgrade and now brew 2.5 gal batches each time I brew. I also brew two batches every time I brew. I do BIAB in a 7.5gal Blichmann pot and a stainless mesh basket. I love the variety I can have and I'm not sitting around with tons of...

Brew in a Basket...anybody try one of these?

This is pretty much a must. I do direct-fired RIMS using the Blichmann Tower of Power Module. I crush at .050 and have the ball valve wide open during the entire mash. There are different gap measurements thrown around for a recirculating BIAB system, but the consensus is widen the gap if you're...

Brew in a Basket...anybody try one of these?

I'd be interested to hear/see how the clarity is vs a mesh basket. I'm currently using a mesh basket and would like a bit clearer wort in the kettle. I dump all the trub currently and don't worry about it, but if clearer wort is possible, at least out of mashing into boiling, I'd be willing to...

    Questions about EBIAB mash recirculation

    1. I recirculate as fast as I can without creating suction or pulling wort so fast that there is no wort under the grain bed. This is to ensure temperature uniformity throughout the mash. Too slow and you're guaranteed spots that are colder than others. Crushing loosely will help with this...

    VIDEO: Brewing a Hillbilly beer

I'm a subscriber so I watched it as soon as it showed up. I LOVED it. Thanks for the work you put into these. Not just a "brew day" but a story. Keep them coming.

Anyone still doing 90 minute boils with pilsen malt as a base?

Yep. I need more than a couple exBEERiments to convince me. Not to downplay their significance. But I want some more hard data too.

    Coconut Cherry Pale Ale

Good thought. I have some wheat I could add to the recipe. May dial the 2-Row down to 5 lbs and throw 1lb of wheat in. It's a great brewing city. I'm a transplant, but have been here almost 15 years now. The craft scene is definitely thriving. A number of breweries and we've got 3 dedicated...

    Coconut Cherry Pale Ale

Perhaps a bit strange, but I've seen a few Cherry Pale Ales & IPA's and a few Coconut Pale Ales & IPA's. I thought I might give a "combo" a shot. The citrus/tropical flavor in the hops is kind of the "orange/mango/lemon" type flavors that, at least in my mind would go well with a cherry...

Yeast Starter Sizing for Smaller Batches

That's what I assumed. I did a bit more research too and found this in the Yeast book by White & Zainisheff. "A high concentration of yeast in a small amount of wort results in very little growth. The 500-milliliter starter barely grew*, only a fraction of a doubling. The fundamental fact is...
