First BIAB and some lessons learned

Interesting information about not needing to mash out. I dunk sparge my bag in 170*F water and stir for a few minuntes to wash the residual sugars off. I guess technically it's also a mash out since it's being done at that temperature. That is the beauty of BIAB. We can choose to do what we...

    5 Gallon EZ-Strainer

How are they working out for you? Never even thought about checking a painters supply i.e. Sherwin Williams. I didn't even know these damn things existed until now. DOH!

    5 Gallon EZ-Strainer

I'm hoping the surface area (11.5" diameter) of the bucket screen will help with the clogs. I had been transferring directly into fermenter with a large funnel with a built in screen. The screen was maybe 4"-5" though and clogged very easily. Glad to hear your hop spider works well for you. I'm...

    5 Gallon EZ-Strainer

Thanks for the input - glad I went with the 400 micron. I only brew 2.5 gal batches so I'm optimistic the weight won't be an issue. If it is I will just continue using a grain bag in the bucket for my transfers. I saw them as well on that other website initially, but shipping was too expensive...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

Me: "Oh you had an IPA? Them: "Yea! An International Pale Ale." :smh:

    5 Gallon EZ-Strainer

Hello folks. I ran across a product this morning of which I immediately purchased. For those of us that BIAB or don't want to mess with hop spiders in our boil kettle: Enter EZ-Strainer. Available in 25, 55, 75, 100, 200, 400, and 600 micron sizes. I'm confident it will be an excellent (cheap)...

    First Mead - topping off

Thanks for the like! FG should be about 11.1% ABV when all is said and done. I'm expecting it'll take about 2 months until it clears on its own. I hadn't thought much about a technique about getting oranges out. I was just going to turn the jug upside down and put my shop-vac nozzle on the...

    First Mead - topping off

Long time reader first time posting. Just getting in to Mead brewing. Basic recipe of water, honey, orange slices, rasins, cinnamon stick, and whole clove. Fermentation is going as planned. After a week or two when it settles down how far up do you guys and gals top off with water?
