    Yeast Starter Tempurature

Why is it so noisy, anyhow? You don't need a crazy fast vortex. Slow and constant will work. The stir plate serves to keep yeast suspended in the starter.

    Yeast Starter Tempurature

You want the starter close to your cooled wort temp. As with any yeast, too cold and they go to sleep and won't kick off strong - too hot and, well,...it's lights out for our little friends. Keep at room temp and you should be fine.

    Sour wheat beer. What happened?

Thanks a million. Seriously, I appreciate the help. I don't own any PBW. Is that safe for all plastics, too? I will be close to my local brew store this afternoon and will pick some up.

    Sour wheat beer. What happened?

I'm now wondering if the honey at flameout caused the infection. It wasn't raw though so I'm not sure.

    Sour wheat beer. What happened?

Here is a picture of the entire recipe - sorry for the lens flair with flash. I pre-washed the kettle before boiling with OxyClean then rinsed. I pre-washed bottling bucket and all bottling accessories (at time of bottling) with OxyClean and rinsed, then sanitized with StarSan. I have city water...

    Sour wheat beer. What happened?

StarSan used for all brewing components with at least 2 mins contact time. Beer was oddly dark after boiling which kind of made me look twice. Good, strong fermentation and I hit my FG after 7 days exactly. I have a feeling there was an infection somewhere due to the wort already being too...

    Sour wheat beer. What happened?

I just cracked a bottle of a basic wheat beer. It turned out dark and absolutely disgusting! It was so sour and had a terrible residual flavor. It was a 1 gallon test batch so I didn't lose out too much. My time is worth more than a 3lb grain bill. Anyone have an idea what caused this? I...

    Yes...this just happened.

So I order an 18 qt, induction-ready kettle from a well known online restaurant retailer. $63 for the kettle and $18 for shipping. My kettle arrives two days ago with a dent in it. After contacting the store's on-line chat and sending a picture, they offered me a free replacement. They said they...

    Random Picture Thread

Bringing this one back from the dead...just a little FYI. "A cheerleader for the Atlanta Falcons must be aware of the requirement to either have a full-time job or be a full-time student, because cheerleaders only receive a small fee (approximately $100) for appearing at the ten home games each...

Survey: Whats your brew pot size and do you use all of it.

I use an 18 qt pot for BIAB. I brew exclusively 2.5 gal batches - this size allows me to mash normal 1.040 grain bills all the way up to big beers.
