American Wheat Beer Honey Balz Spring Wheat

Just brewed this and put it in the keg. OG was right on at 1.051, but fermentation stuck and I ended up at 1.017 at the end. I was surprised using the US-05 that it got that taste I always equate with Belgian beers. Maybe that will change a little after it sits on the gas.

I was scolded at LHBS today when I told em I don't usually use a secondary

Understood. I had to think long and hard about which way to go. I like the carboy tradition. I like to see if bubble. I fear scratches. I just thought it was funny that everybody has an opinion. Even the guy trying to sell all that "unnecessary expensive equipment" or in my case the guy who...

I was scolded at LHBS today when I told em I don't usually use a secondary

Funny. I went to my LHBS to buy a couple of big glass carboys. The guy said he'd sell them to me, but I was wasting my money when this $15 bucket works just as well as is a heck of a lot easier to clean.

What gateway beer for wife who likes sweet carbonated wines?

Agreed. Start her with the Lindeman's Lambic. My wife loves the Franboise. From there I have gotten her to Hard Ciders. Probably will never like beer beer due to the buttering hops. Closest I've ever gotten her is Dundee Honey Brown and I seem to recall one real light strawberry blonde once.

    Wife now wants it sweeter

All seems well except that I obviously didn't get the syrup cool enough on the 2nd addition. We had a small volcano Added 3 cups sugar dissolved in 3 cups water and 1 ounce raspberry extract. Went fine, still wanted sweeter. Repeated process with a second batch of the syrup mix. Should...

    Wife now wants it sweeter

She liked it much better tonight when we put a half shot of simple syrup in the bottom the glass and poured from the tap on tap. Just curious if we could go ahead and open it up and add about 25 ounces of simple syrup.

    I guess I'm over carbed

New to kegging. Have a fridge set up with 3 taps. When I bought the kegerator it had 5 foot lines. Had the fridge set around 35 degrees. Put the regulator on 12 and left it for 2 weeks on my first 2 batches of beer. Lots of foam. I have since turned the fridge up to 40 degrees, changed to...

    Wife now wants it sweeter

I made a basic cider from a recipe off here. Backsweetened with 3 cans of juice concentrate before it went into the keg and force carbonated. Now my wife who taste tested it before and said it was good thinks it should have been a little sweeter. Is there anyone who has opened up the keg...

    Foaming troubles with first batches

Happening with 2 out of 3. The 2 foaming went on the gas at the same time and are beer. The third went on the gas later and is a cider. Don't those carbonate a little differently on average?

    Foaming troubles with first batches

It's a fridge, so the lines are not going into a tower. The spigots are right into the door. Testing future pours as we speak. 3 in and still foamy. Last weekend we ran lots of test scenarios trying to fix it. The next morning I was regretting the multiple testing.

    Foaming troubles with first batches

I have searched the forums and tried everything. Even brought over a guy who has been doing this a while and he couldn't figure it out. Fridge sitting at 39 degrees. Set and forget method at 12 on the regulator. 12 foot 3/16ID tubing. Usually about half the glass is foam. Doesn't...

    First beers poured

I figured the Razorback glasses would catch someone's eye. We have a small homebrew thread on one of the Razorback sports boards. The first glass was a coincidence, but then I grabbed the second for a good photo op for that board.

    First beers poured

Still need a little time to carbonate and age, but I'm proud to say my 1st two attempts were drinkable tonight. They were both AHS clone kits: an extract Lagunitas IPA (left) and a mini-mash Fat Tire (right). Didn't quite hit the numbers right on the mini mash. Third tap on the kegerator is...
