    About to brew some High ABV beers

    Easiest way I know to make a blow off is to get a 3 piece hydrolock, take off the cap and middle piece and just run a siphon hose from the remaining piece to a bowl or glass filled with star san and just dip the other end of the hose in it.

    The starsan is no rinse so its fine if a bit gets in your brew. sounds lije normal fermentation to me. i had a batch of coopers with crazy fermentation like tgat

    I agree with fix. if you discovered you needed a blow off tube then its already to late and you have a mess to clean

    Hygrometer Some type of testing vessell (usually whatever the hygrometer came in) Beer thief for samples A device to cap your bottles Ivvesting in a bucket with a spigot for bottling wouldn't hurt either

    Ive never noticed a smoky taste in guiness so I'm with the others. As far as coopers yeast I've brewed to of the extract kits before in a 6 gal primary and to say the least the yeast activity is on the aggressive side

    hmm looks like my LHBS let me astray. I'd made a few batches before and always used DME and I was told brewferm doesn't require it

    also the recipe if you can call it that was one can of brewferm abrosia extract, the yeast it came with and water. no dme or lme added

    I'll taste when I get home and try to give it a stir if it doesn't turn my gills inside out. Also I started fermentation in a room at 64 degrees, but thinking the yeast may have stopped early I moved it to a warmer room at 72 degrees. I could still pitch more yeast after 10 days of sitting in...
