what do you carry your LME home in?

My LHBS sells LME in quart containers. I guess just save your wonton soup or potato salad containers? Or bring in some tupperware? I suppose bringing a milk jug could work, but it seems like the benefit of tupperware is the seal unless you plan on brewing right when you return home.

    Philly Bars

I went to a Founders dinner at the South Philly Tap Room back in June. 10 courses paired with 10 beers... it was one of the best nights out I've ever had without exageration. KBS paired with pecan ice cream and cookie to finish the night off. I hope they do this again this year!

Brew Pub in NYC near MSG?

I've been wanting to go to the Gingerman for some time. I love the Blind Tiger Ale House on Bleeker Street. Its one of the best beer bars in the United States and the sandwiches are amazing!

    Mint breakfast stout

This sounds interesting! I was thinking of making a founders clone using coffee from a local roasting company in the new year. I wonder how the mint will translate? If you'll have a minty fresh finish?

    Rubber Gasket Fell in Wort

iron city is correct. i taped over the hole and then punctured it to put the air lock in. after that, i put a few pieces of tape around the airlock to secure it. however, it needed further fastening. another trip to the hardware store tonight to rig up another tube. i love that home brewing...

    Fat Tire Amber Ale Clone

I've heard that its sold in NC now. That said, there is none to be found here in NJ. I used the brewer's apprentice's clone as my first brew. It tasted great, but not quite the same as the real thing. Chalk it up to me being green or the recipe not being the same... or both! I brewed it again...

    Rubber Gasket Fell in Wort

Thanks. I was thinking of making one for it. I have a blowoff on the rye ale fermenting in the carboy. Do you use a blowoff on all of your brews? It seems like the lid/air-lock system is a bit flimsy, but I havent had an issue with the pvc bucket until this point.

    Rubber Gasket Fell in Wort

So far, so good... I had to add more duct tape because the airlock shot off from the pressure.

    Rubber Gasket Fell in Wort

Thanks, everybody! It was sanitized. No activity yet, but I'm sure it'll be ok. Also, oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for HBT. Theres so much help here and nobody seems to harbor ill feelings towards noobs. Heres to you guys and gals!

    Rubber Gasket Fell in Wort

So I made a brown ale this evening and put the wort into primary, added the yeast and sealed the lid. I went to put the airlock in and the gasket fell into the wort. I initially tried to fish it out, but feared leaving the wort exposed. I finally called it quits on the rescue operation and...

    worst beer you ever made

I brewed a dunkelweiss recently, but it has turned out sour... almost like a lambic. Iv'e been holding out hope, but I don't think it will improve. It was my 3rd brew, first time using liquid yeast. I didnt see any airlock activity after 3 days, so I opened it to check it. My LHBS said to take a...

    Expensive Rogue Beer

I love Rogue, but a bomber runs about $6-$8 near me. The Rogue St. Red, Smoke Ale and Hazelnut Brown are my favorites. A plus side to liking this beer and getting into home brew is that Ive been saving their bottle for my own use which causes me to buy less bottles. They are easyto clean...

My Beer taste like Apple Cider

Could it be something specific to Dunkels? Perhaps they require a greater time to condition? I brewed a dunkel on Labor Day. I went through some initial problems with fermentation, but it seemed to pick up after 2 or 3 days. I let it sit in primary for 2 weeks and then bottled. I opened...

    Greetings from (near) Asbury Park!

Hello! Do you know where that was? After all of my years living in the area and hearing stories of friends run into him or bartenders saying "Bruce sat right there last night" I've bumped into him a few times in the last year and a half. Most recently, in July in Red Bank on my bday! The...

    Greetings from (near) Asbury Park!

After years of consuming pints of Guinness, frequenting the aisles of local liquor stores for german and craft beers, attending beer festivals and discovering great beer bars in NYC and Philly, I decided to get into home brewing. I was inspired by talking to Dave Engbers when my gf and I...

    Gravity increase?!

Thanks for your help, Revvy! Yes, I topped off with water. I was slightly above 5 gallons but not substantially. I have a carboy, should I transfer to secondary and see if the gravity decreases or just let it sit in primary for another week and then bottle it?

    Gravity increase?!

Hello, I'm new on the forum and still new at homebrewing. I'm on my 3rd batch and its acting strange and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. The first beer was fantastic and the second one is going along well. Last saturday, my gf and brewed a Dunkel Weiss. This one used...
