Any good breweries near Ft. Lauderdale, FL?

I haven't had much good beer in West Palm / Ft Laud / Miami.

Which Beer Took Your "BMC Virginity"

First beer I ever had was a Sam Adams back in high school. I went through the BMC phase in college, but have always had a taste for expensive beer. Worked in a liquor store when I was a freshman in college and we would always take home shift beers. I think I must have had 100-200 different...

    The Yard House?

They have a great beer selection, with styles that you would not typically find. They generally keep their lines clean, though I have had 1 or 2 beers that have had diacetyl issues (a Fullers London Pride and another English brew - definitely difficult beers to keep pristine if they aren't...

first brew, exploding beer, will more time help?

Logically I would agree with you, which is why for my first two batches I didn't really think that boiling/cooling then mixing straight into the bottling bucket would be an issue. My first two batches through had extreme inconsistencies in carbonation that could not be explained by: 1. Time...

    "Piles of Crap" Brewstands

Bobby M, you deserve an A for the use of that ladder.

first brew, exploding beer, will more time help?

I find it funny that no one ever mentions what I would assume to be the one of the most likely reasons to have gusher bottles (especially among newbs like myself because it was the first obvious mistake that I made), improper mixing of the priming sugar. Sorry, but it just makes me cringe to...

    Infection? (Pics included...n00b!)

It is pretty amazing how symmetrical that looks. It definitely doesn't look like a bacterial infection, but it could be mold. Don't toss your beer. Just give it a few weeks and see how it tastes.

Citra and Simcoe APA...I like citrus but...

Use the style guidelines. You can adjust the style in the sheet, and it will tell you whether you are to style. 70+ would be overboard for an APA, but would be fine for an IPA. One thing that I would suggest would be to start out with an APA instead of an IPA. Hop schedules are one of the...

Citra and Simcoe APA...I like citrus but...

Are you doing a full or a partial boil? Your IBU's for this could be anywhere from high 30's to low 70's depending on how big your boil is. I highly suggest that if you don't have a program like Beersmith, then go over to hopville.com and plug your recipe in. It is free and can give you and...

I thought All Grain was cheaper??!!

If you don't want to buy in bulk, which means you'll need a grain crusher, then try rebel brewer. Their prices for base malts are absurd, and they will crush them for you. I order base malts from them, hops from hopsdirect, and go to LhBS for any specialty malts and yeast that I might need.

    Wyeat 2124 Bohemian Pilsner Yeast

I hear lagers need bunch more yeast to pitch properly. You might want to grab two packs of dry lager yeast since you don't have time to make a starter.

Tasted Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for First Time

I'vefound that I lve hoppy beers, but I also know that I'm not a huge fan of straight cascades, which is pretty much all SN seems to use. To me, cascades don't seem to impart much flavor/aroma as many other hops. I find that I'm much more likely to drink ther brands of APA because of this.

Tasted Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for First Time

If you are drinking it strait from the bottle, all you will taste is the hops. Pour hat beer into a glass. It will let the malt out a little bit to balance the bitterness some.

    Ryehabilitation Ale

This is my new favorite ale, and will be my house ale going forward. I try to keep a lighter ale and something a little heavier on tap, and this was definitely something I brewed up to keep SWMBO happy. She has been begging me to make a rye ale for a while. This was the first attempt, and I...

"Do you have more than $10,000 in credit card debt"

Basically, they tell you to stop paying your credit card bills and to start paying them. They will then proceed to not pay your credit card bills for a period of at least a year, during which time you will begin to get calls from collectors and your credit will be shot, but the credit card...

Stuck mash- what am I doing wrong here?

Did two batches yesterday. First, a rye IPA that worked like a champ. Second batch I brewed an English bitter. All of 6 lb of marris otter and 1 lb of crystal 40. Threw in some rice hulls just b/c I always do, mashed in at 152. 1 hour later, nothing but a dribble. I use a 10 gallon igloo...

How do you get a corny keg to friggin' seal?

Pullup hard on the lid til the keg is pressurized. After that it will hold the seal with the pressure in the keg.
