    mash tun design

Well i guess since my bulkhead is about 2" higher than the bottom, tipping the pot would nit work very well since i rely on a siphon to get everything. Is your bulkhead very close to the bottom of your pot ?

    siphon issue....

I use a copper manifold, sitting at the bottom with the slits and holes facing downwards. The whole thing is connected to my bulkhead with rigid copper. Tonight, I tried emptying the mash tun by gravity and also with the pump. In the end, I can siphon correctly the whole thing but I'm still...

    mash tun design

So I've got a copper manifold in my mash tun and I'm having a few issues with it and I'm thinking about upgrading to a ss braided hose. For those of you using this, how much deadspace do you have ? I assume that as soon as the liquid level drops to the top of the braid, you lose the siphon right...

    siphon issue....

I've done about 10 all grain batches so far and sometimes, I've got issues with starting a siphon from my mash tun. Sometimes, the liquid fills the whole silicone hose as soon as I open the valve and sometimes, I only get a trickle. My last brew was a big failure, and to make things worse, it...

    beersmith pre boil problem

Very often, I get a lower measured pre boil volume than expected. Sometimes I'm spot on and sometimes not. What could affect this thing. Today, I was planning for a 28L pre boi volume but I got 25 L. I've checked my mash tun deadspace twice and everything's ok. The only thing new I added today...

    oatmeal stout help !!

Yes this is not about color, it's all about taste. My question should have been : If using darker grains than specified, should I reduce the amount of grains to match the taste ? In other words, will a 600 L roasted be like 2 times "stronger" than a 300 L one ?

    oatmeal stout help !!

well on wikipedia they state that SRM = (Lovibond+0.6)/1.35. srm and Lovi. are pretty much the same when using pale grains but when using values over 300L, the srm is not close at all ! Hence why my 637L barley is actually 860 SRM. I know how to adjust my recipe with beersmith for the...

    oatmeal stout help !!

Planning a brew for next sunday and I'm lost about srm, lovibonds and ebc. I bought all my grains and found out that I have a HUGE difference in srm between my grains and the default one used in beersmith. On the bag of my roasted barley, it's written 637 L which is about 860 srm (beersmith...

    brewery finished !

Well i put lots of teflon tape around everything and tightened everything as hard as I could but i'm still having a very slow leak on my T fitting and on a nipple. I dissambled everything twice and redid my teflon job but with no luck. I'll still brew with it, it's a very small leak but it's...

    brewery finished !

I've been working for the last couple of weeks on my electric brewery and I'm glad I bought the pump and cam locks. Did a water test and everything's ok except a few leaks in my pumps plumbing...I'm unable to fix it. The exhaust hood was a lot work !

    Switches and pump !

So by using a 3 conductor wire, i wire the red one to the switch and connect it to the bottom screw of the hot side ?

    Switches and pump !

I want to wire 2 switches to my pump and exhaust hood. I plan on using a standard outlet, plug each load into it, wire 2 switches and put the whole thing in a small project box. It will then be plugged to my wall using an extension cord. I found this diagram on how to wire a switch. Pretty easy...
