    Silver solder cracks

I have a keggle with 4 soldered fittings on it (2x1" locknut btw) that i've been using for 3 years now wihtout any problems. It's electric though so maybe the thermal shock is less. Anyway, i'm always checking the solders before using it.

How to make a perfect English Pale Ale

I've always wondered why london pride is regarded as good pale ale...fuller's esb is sooooo much better, it's like a london pride on steroid. Anyway, I'm still trying to emulate that english twang...getting closer but still not quite there. I have the fuller's esb recipe which I've brewed many...

    dual purpose mini fridge

Yes, the probe is taped to the fermenter with some insulation behind it to make sure it reads only the wall of the bucket. With the cord through thr door, won't the compressor cycle too much ?

    dual purpose mini fridge

I am on tight budget and space so I use my mini fridge as a kegerator and a fermentation chamber. I use an stc-1000 to control the fermentation. Now I realize that even though the room is at 70 F, the fridge needs some warmth to get to 68 since I pitch at 64. If I add a heater or fermwrap, how...

    Water Problem

Campden tablets will remove chlorine and chloramine right away. I use that and a lot of people use that stuff here. You could also buy bottled water but you will probably need to add minerals to it. Last option is a carbon filter but these are good at chlorine removal, not su much for...

how do I prep my DIY oak mash paddle for use?

while I agree that red oak is not the ideal type of wood for a mash paddle, I've been using mine for over a year now without any problems. No oil was used and I just rinse it after use that's all. At my home depot, I can only find red oak dowels anyway...

    Harvesting/washing (high flocculant) wyeast 1968

The video is interesting regarding the 24h time on a stir plate but what if you have a 4-5 months old package. I don't think you'll see any activites if you let the starter on the stir plate for 24h. That's why some people left the culture on the plate for 3-4 days

    Ward labs precision

Ok so when they state that you your calcium is 20 ppm, it's not a number they picked within a bracket of possible values ? It's the actual value they got then.

    Ward labs precision

Just wondering how precise are ward labs results on tap water ? 21$ for a houshold mineral test is damn cheap compared to other companies in Canada. I was quoted 150$ for a similar test here. Is ward labs really testing each minerals/ions individually ?

    Slow sparge....help !

Update ! I built a copper manifold and set my mill to 0,039". I brewed the same recipe today and all went well ! I believe the combination of a tight braid and very fine crush was the culprit

    Slow sparge....help !

I already had one of those inner tubes...same problem happened. My braid is not collapsing for sure since I have a spring inside of it. Bobby, i'm thinking compaction too but even before I start the pump, I need to prime it. This time, it did't even prime. Nothing was moving out of the tun by...

    Slow sparge....help !

Well I don't have any picture of the grain milled at 0.025" but since I wet conditioned my malt, I had whole intact kennels and lots of small white particles

    Slow sparge....help !

For the moment, I adjusted my mill to 0.039" and I might go back to a manifold. As for malt conditioning, I don't think it could me my problem as it keeps the kennels for a better filtration. Rekoob, yes after dumping the grains, I filled the tun with water to check if everything was ok...

    Slow sparge....help !

there are no stupid questions ! Here's the culprit. It's ss. I remembre poking a few wires in my skin when I removed the inner tubing.

    Slow sparge....help !

what about using a false bottom ? Are those any better at avoiding a stuck mash than other setups ?
