    Plan B, just in case...

I always aerated the wort and not the starter but when I starter aerating the starters it kicked everything into high gear. Since I started aerating starters all of my batches need a blow off tube where I never had to have one before. They also start up almost as soon as it is pitched.

    Refrigerator thermostat

Does anyone know a way to modify the thermostat that comes with the refrigerator to go to higher temperatures. Is it a low voltage thermostat, or high voltage? If it is low I would think you could use a standard household thermostat. Your thoughts.

Will a Temperature Controller ruin a chest freezer?

It will cycle more at freezing temps than at 65 degrees because there is a larger temperature differentiation from inside to outside.

    yeast infection

I just went through at least 12 bad batches in a row and trust me, the only sure way to get rid of an infection once it is in your fermenter is to scrub it good and soak it in a strong bleach solution. I can't be sure what started it but I can be sure that you won't shake it until you scrub...

    Aerating wort.

I have just found out that I have way better results aerating the starter for 5 minutes with an aquarium pump. The first time I tried it on a Kolsh and had the quickest start by far. I Pitched a california ale starter after 24 hours and it blew through the airlock the next day. This has never...

    yeast infection

Unless your brew partner is female and hot, I would operate alone. Don't forget to scrub the bucket. Also use a high concentration bleach soak.
