I broke pretty much every rule in the book...

It doesn't mean they don't market it as Mac Big in France, but you're probably right. That was pretty much her reaction, minus the smacking.

    Apfelwein Disaster

I just had an apfelwein close call. Cheap shelf broke and 5 gallons of Motts fell down in my closet right behind me while I'm studying. Scared the crap out of me. Fortunately, none of them broke open. edit: They fell from 6 feet.

4mm vs. 6mm aluminum pot, size of pot

The catch is high shipping and handling. Still not bad though.

4mm vs. 6mm aluminum pot, size of pot

I decided to splurge and get the thicker one because it wasn't much more. The place you linked looks cheap, but then they add $6 handling and $20 shipping. I got it from here: Stock Pot 40 Qt. Hvy Weight: Kitchen Supply Direct, Inc. After shipping it was slightly cheaper than your place.

4mm vs. 6mm aluminum pot, size of pot

    I think I'll probably go with a 4mm 10 gal.

    question about apfelwein and sanitation

Noob question about Edwort's Apfelwein. He says to add the corn sugar right into the juice. Wouldn't this be a source for contamination? Is this why he specifies 1 pound bags of sugar? So they are used immediately after opening, reducing the chance of contamination? If I used sugar from a...

4mm vs. 6mm aluminum pot, size of pot

I'm looking at getting a new aluminum pot so I can do full boils, and I'm wondering if there would be any point in getting a 6mm thick pot vs. the more common 4mm. As for the size, Palmer says 8 gallons is big enough for all grain should I eventually go that route. Thoughts?

    I'm Impressed

I'm brewing a batch of hop head and it tasted pretty good after a week in primary :D

Batch #2 is going to be awesome!

Ambient temp got pretty warm today. Although fermentation appears to still be moving along, it isn't strong enough to heat up (I think) or blow bubbles through the airlock.

Batch #2 is going to be awesome!

My second batch has been in primary for 12 days, and the yeasties appear to still be workin hard. Took a sample today and it tasted great! Hop Head Double IPA liquid extract kit from Midwest Munton's premium gold dry yeast 1/28/09 day 0 gravity 1.066 temperature 63F...

Brew kettle: with or without ball valve

Did I say something offensive? I didn't mean to offend anyone. Sorry.

Brew kettle: with or without ball valve

This is confusing because you state a dichotomy, then you acknowledge a third option, and then you go back to the dichotomy and seem to forget the third option. You seem to state the inconvenience of picking up the pot and pouring as a reason not to siphon.

Brew kettle: with or without ball valve

This post doesn't make any sense.

    I need heat! Burner questions.

I have thought about constructing something that would hold 3 electric stove elements close together to go underneath a single brew kettle. Thoughts?
