Looking for Food Safe materials for Mash Ton.

The 3 main things I was questioning 1. Various brass pieces and the possibility of them containing lead. 2. Supply Line mesh (Apparently there are different kinds and you want to stay away from galvanized) 3. PVC Top two comments on this video are why I was questioning. I understand he...

Looking for Food Safe materials for Mash Ton.

I am planning on making a Mash Tun and have seen quite a few DIY Mash Tun videos & posts... The problem is no one seems to mention the safety of the materials used in the DIY project. I've heard many of the Home Depot & Lowes parts are not food safe. I've read the metal "mesh" thats normally...

OG not where I was excpecting for partial mash Kolsch...

Ok cool thanks for the info, I'm not freaking out too much, heh I'm sure it'll be good, just on the light side ...I just want to learn from any possible mistakes. I boiled the honey for like 30 minutes just to be safe (It came out of a honey jar that we had been using so I didn't wanna risk...

    Belgian Tripel Racking question

Ok, yeah I meant 1.009 haha. Ok so both of you guys are saying to NOT rack to secondary, just leave it in the primary for a good amount of time. Just out of curiosity, why would I not rack to a secondary for this beer?

Looking for a fruity more novelty style beer

I'm going to the beach in a few months and I'd like to have some kind of fruity type light novelty beer. And before you make fun of me, this is IN ADDITION to some IPA's and a Belgian Tripel so this is just to throw something ineresting, light and fruity into the mix and also just because I like...

Brewing my first IPA - Couple questions about fermentation

Alright guys well...I boosted the temp as much as i could. I placed it in the warmest closet in my house which is 64 or so degrees...maybe slightly less at times and it's been 10 days. Just checked the gravity. 1.018 or so...So not much has happened, I tasted it and it's really sugary and malty...

Is the MrMalty Calculator Accurate When Dealing With HG Yeast?

Title says it all... The calculator doesn't have anywhere to display whether the yeast strain is high gravity or not. I'm currently trying to calculate a starter for 3787 TRAPPIST HG yeast. Does the fact that it's HG not have anything to do with the required cells? Whats the diference between...

Is it fine to pull Malt extract from my "recipe" when making a starter?

Might be a stupid question.. Forgive me But I need to make a starter and don't have any extra malt extract. The beer I'm brewing has malt extract in it so can I just "steal" it from that? I'm planning on pitching the whole starter in so I would imagine it wouldn't be an issue...Just not sure if...

Questions about Wyeast and a Belgian Tripel

Ok, I'm not at all concerned with this coming out as a "traditional tripel" I'm using double the hops to kinda go for a raging bitch type belgian IPA sort of thing and also adding coriander, I highly despise the idea of just purchasing a kit and brewing as is. If I wanted a belgian tripel I...

Questions about Wyeast and a Belgian Tripel

The gravity is supposed to be 9% or so I believe. I was planning adding the two lbs of malt because I wanted to do "martial mash" and begin learning to mash grains and all that. Wha'ts the difference if I add more malt to a tripel, doesen't that just make it closer to a Quad? 3-4 Liters? WHOA...

Questions about Wyeast and a Belgian Tripel

Ok, I'm getting ready to brew my second brew and I'm trying to make sure I don't screw anything up because I spent a lot of money on this Belgian Tripel kit, haha! (my first brew is currently stalled at 1.02 which is part of my worries) This is the kit that I'm talking about...

Brewing my first IPA - Couple questions about fermentation

Awesome So do you guys think I Should I consider pitching more yeast? And about the stuff stuck on the side of the bucket, should I try and knock that back into the beer? I wasn't sure if that had yeast in it and if it would help to be in the beer.
