Adding hops to Mr Beer American Devil IPA

Wow... thanks for the input. I forgot to say in my original post that I love hoppy beer. Favorites are Bell's 2 Hearted and Hopslam. Never really dealt with Palisade before, anyone have suggestions on when to add that one? Great info by the way on the citra for late addition and dry hopping...

Adding hops to Mr Beer American Devil IPA

Thought I would do one last batch of Mr Beer before I move on to bigger and better things (literally, the girlfriend won't let me get 5 gal equipment before we move out of the apartment and into our house) and decided on the American Devil IPA. I have read a few places that this is Mr Beer's...

Mr. Beer(adding sugar and whats best)

I would rack the beer to another container, then add the sugar to your Mr. Beer fermenter to bottle and rack back. The siphon racking will mix the sugar well enough. You could also dissolve the sugar first in purified water which might help a little.

    Russian River Brewing Sucks

 So its safe to say that you in no way have every consumed a GMO or used a product that was produced with the use of pesticides/herbicides? Do you know how many tons of earth had to be removed to obtain the materials and rare earth elements used in your computer or cell phone...

    craigtube hard cider

I would really recommend you look at the pasteurization sticky in the forum. It would be much more reliable than just keeping them in the freezer.

    My New Cider

Just started my latest (3rd) batch of apple cider. First one turned out ok, but rather dry. Second one was terrible after backsweetening it with splenda, and ended up dumping the entire batch. This batch I have pretty high hopes for. 2 gallons Motts Apple Juice 1 compacted cup of brown...

    craigtube hard cider

Bottle like regular and check after about 2 days by opening one. Pretty much the only way to do it. It will still be drinkable even if the one you open is not completely ready, many people enjoy their cider flat anyway. I have also thought about finding smaller plastic bottles (8oz or so)...

    craigtube hard cider

I did basically the same thing on my first batch and it stays pretty dry. Not too bad if you don't mind a dry, wine-like cider though. I bottle carbed it and it did pretty well. Next batch I did I backsweetened with non-fermentable sugar and ended up dumping the batch because I couldn't stand...

    Campden Tablets

I used Splenda in my last cider batch and ended up throwing it out. Just couldn't stand that artificial/chemical aftertaste. Will definitely be pasteurizing next time after back sweetening with apple juice concentrate and some brown sugar.

    Using Iodophor sanitizer

Could be wrong, but I was under the impression that you should let it sit for around 10 min with Iodophor.

    backsweeten help

Never tried with blueberry juice, but I would imagine that after a second round of fermentation you would still have a little flavor from them depending on how much you added vs how much cider you originally had. I would also recommend that you try using a non-fermentable sugar like xyitol in a...

    Shut down (Michigan Brewing Company)

Something tells me your not much of a fan of MBC. Not sure where I'm picking that up from, but I get a strange feeling. ;) In all seriousness, never had a beer from there, but like someone else said, saw the place on Dinners, Drive-ins, and Dives and it looked like they had some nice...

Great info, thanks Any thoughts on preservatives in the concentrate?

    Yet another backsweetening thread (sorry)

I recently just just dumped my last 2 gal batch of bottled cider after realizing that non-fermentable sugars suck (in my opinion, and I used Splenda). I just can't get over that chemical flavored sweetness. So I have decided that this time I will try again and pasteurize after backsweetening...

Starting to get bottle bombs. What should I do?

It sounds like you might have caused more fermentation after you increased the temp from 68 for fermenting to 72 for conditioning. Must have just been enough sugars remaining and with the addition of priming sugar + increased temps = boom.

    Home Brew Shops in Iowa?

Chesters is alright, has most of the basic items someone would need and a pretty good assortment of kits as well. But Beer Crazy would be worth the trip to DM for anyone in Iowa, the place is great. Cool to see so many fellow Iowans on HBF!
