This Really Annoys Me Pet Peeve Thread

Most of the grocery stores around here have these circular grocery bag carousels now where the cashiers put the groceries in the bag and then spin it so the customer can put them in their cart. Like this: If the cashier spins counterclockwise, the filled bag goes directly to the customer...

    Scrapyard score?

If it were a pot or sink or something I could physically scrub, I would be less reluctant. However, with the counterflow chillers, you can only run cleaning chemicals through; you can't scrub the inside. And baking may or may not remove/inactivate any chemicals left behind. There are some...

    Scrapyard score?

I'd be very hesitant to give them a try on account of not knowing what was in them before.

What I did for beer today

Two brews done in 6.5 hours! I'm happy with that!

    Cold Crash

I usually cold crash for 2 days before kegging. I don't know how much good overnight would do, but it's probably better than nothing for clearing your beer. There is a sizable minority here who are staunchly against cold crashing and will tell you not to because it can introduce oxygen to the...

    Venting about Utah's Sharia State

If you make it an unpaid position, only the wealthy can afford to do it. And like it or not, in a republic, we need representatives to represent us throughout the year. I like the idea, but it just wouldn't work unfortunately. And for the record, I'm libertarian too. EDIT: Shoot. Sorry...

    Venting about Utah's Sharia State

I know I'm going to sound like a bigot with this post, but I'm just speaking from my own experience. When I was deployed to Iraq, I was with a unit from Utah, the vast majority of them Mormon. They were rabid about their way of doing things, like ****ing vegans. A few highlights...

What is this brown powder looking substance floating on top?

My wife was super happy when that happened to a beer I left fermenting overnight on the stove top once. She was especially excited about how the stopper flew out and left krausen stuck all over the ceiling and cabinets.

What I did for beer today

I've got the day off, so I'm brewing! I'm doing the sparge right now on my first brew, an Irish ale, and I just ground the grain for a double IPA for the second brew.

    Econonomic Glycol Chiller?

For $500, it better look a lot better than the one you showed the picture of. I realize it probably works great, but if someone is going to spend $500, it's got to look more professional than a hacked AC unit. I think you may be referring to my build thread. If so, it's in my sig. It's the 8...

My soda is not carbonating in the keg

Everything I read said soda should be between 3.5-4.0 vol. My kegerator is set at 38 F, which gives me 3.8 vols. But, there is zero carbonation. Not under-carbed... But un-carbed.

My soda is not carbonating in the keg

I already sprayed it down looking for leaks and didn't find anything. It's getting air, because when I purge with gas, it fills right back up. Also, if I leave the pressure relief valve open, gas will spill right out. But, this is a new manifold that I've never taken apart, so maybe it's on...

My soda is not carbonating in the keg

I'm here scratching my head. I have an 8 tap kegerator, and one of them is dedicated to soda. The soda keg is at 25 psi. The other 7 are at 12 psi. I have a three gauge regulator. One goes to an 8-way manifold for the beer. The other (the one set at 25 psi) goes to a 3-way manifold, which then...
