    Collecting brewing water early

Also, does anybody start heating the wort as they are draining the sparge water or wait until it is all in the kettle? I am thinking that if I get a head start on bring the wort up to a boil it may save some time there. Let me know if this has no I'll effects on the beer.

    Collecting brewing water early

When you say it leaves less clear beer, are you saying from the fermenter to bottling bucket or keg of in the finished product? I don't want to sacrifice clarity. I assume it will settle when sitting in the fridge and be fine but just wanted to check.

    Collecting brewing water early

Thanks for the great advice. Glad to hear collecting the water early is something people are doing. I didn't think it would be too much of an issue due to the boiling and all, but I wanted reassurance. My grains are crushed already as I don't have a mill, YET, so that is taken care of. I seem...

    Collecting brewing water early

So I am trying to shave some time off my brew day for SWMBO and was thinking about collecting my water a few days before I brew...I filter it slowly through a carbon filter...and was wondering if anyone thought this was a bad idea. It may sit sealed up in an empty fermentor for a few days. Any...

    You know its September when...

You know it's September when you have canned pumpkin, brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice in your grocery cart for that pumpkin ale in October. And when the kids are back in school...jury is still out on which is better.

Does this look like an infection?

Hard to say, but it does look suspicious.

Do I really need to bottle everything?

Isn't it easier to set up for bottling day once and not twice? I would get more bottles and do it all at once. I view it as a labor of love.

How old is too old for crushed grains?

I ordered some all grain kits during the holidays 2014 and because unforseen circumstances I still have one kit of crushed grain that I haven't used. They have been kept in the plastic bag that they were shipped in at room temp, mid 70's since then. Should I spend the time brewing this up or...

Any Columbia South Carolina brewers here?

Thanks for the great info. Coming from a high alkaline water system it will be nice to not worry too much about the water. Hoppy beers take some adjustments to really taste good. Thanks for the info on the club. Once I am all settled I will take a look at it.

Any Columbia South Carolina brewers here?

Thanks for the responses. As for the water, do you both brew all grain or extract/partial mash? Just wondering as to what water you currently use. If you say you brew all grain and use the municipal water, that would make me feel better.

Any Columbia South Carolina brewers here?

I am probably moving to the Chapin / Columbia area and was wondering how the water is in the area for brewing. Anybody out there live near there and care to share that with me I would greatly appreciate it. Also, what about LHBS in the area. I find one place Bet-Mar. Is it any good? I will be...

Pale Ale Malt vs Maris Otter in Milk Stout?

My experience with pale ale malt, not the brand you bought but pale ale malt in general, versus Maris Otter will be the absence a biscuity note that Maris Otter adds, that I love. Other than that I would think it will not make a huge difference, someone may correct me though.

    Capped bottles, forgot priming sugar

I would add carb drops and recap. You could risk bottle bombs if you don't measure the priming sugar solution correctly.

    St Petersburg, Florida Water

I live in Pinellas county and use tap water from the tap for my beer. I filter it through a carbon filter to remove any off flavors and them treat it with a campden tablet for the chloramine in the water. The high alkalinity makes it more conducive to brewing darker beers, but I have brewed...

I have tried them and agree that they are very good. Try a Rocky Patel Vintage 1992. They are very good as well. And for what it's worth, I had a 240sx as well. Loved that car.
