    I'm a DIY'er and I Hate Stickers

WD40 works wonders. I use it to remove labels and stickers from beer bottles and wine bottles. You just need to rewash/sanitize the items afterwards.

    SQ14 arrives tomorrow, any tips/tricks

you might consider adding a heat/wind shield. There are a couple of posts that describe them. i put one on mine and it helped with large batches. I built mine out of a 6 Inch to 8 inch stove pipe connector. the 6 inch side fits right around the burner and it was just tall enough to fit...

    What size hose?

Hi Shaggy, Let me know if I figured out what the article said. In a nutshell, you need the pressure under the false bottom being relieved by the ball valve to be greater than the pressure of the wort passing through the holes of the false bottom. Basically, creating a back pressure being...

BC SQ-14 convert to high pressure

Thanks everyone for the input. It sounds like it's more hassle than it's worth. Like I said, it works pretty well, but I'm always looking for ways to cut the time.

    What size hose?

Thanks Shaggy. I'll take a read. I'm just always thinking outside the box.

    What size hose?

Slightly off topic. I converted my 10 Gallon rubbermaid cooler using 3/8 inch fitings as well, but my HLT and Boiler are 1/2 Inch. I normally double batch sparge and was wondering if changing to a 1/2 fitting on the MLT would decrease my sparge times. Even wide open the 3/8 inch fitting can...

BC SQ-14 convert to high pressure

Hi All, Does it make sense to attempt to convert the burner on a SQ-14 from low pressure to high pressure? Will I be able to cut my time to bring things to temp? I know I'd have to change the orifice, but what are the alternatives for a regulator? Can you get adjustable regulators like what...

    Correct term for female brewer?

My wife likes to help and she refers to herself as the brewery rat. I think we got that from the wine making we do and she calls herself the celler rat in that case. I think if she was doing a batch on her own it would be different.

How many weeks do you ferment, typically?

One week primary, one week secondary, one week keg conditioning. It's drinkable after two weeks but it's better after a week in the keg.

Possible alternative to the blichman autosparge

I thought the autosparge was a great idea, but a little expensive. So, I tried what you found a little while ago. i don't know if it's the same valve, but it looks about the same as I remember (i'm at work) I found a 3/8 inch plastic float valve that was temperature tolerant and I built my...

    Blichman autosparge

This may be off topic slightly, since the original question was whether to use the autosparge in a keg mash tun, but FWIW I thought the autosparge was a great idea, but a little expensive. I found a 3/8 inch plastic float valve that was temperature tolerant and I built my own. I mash and...

    Dip tube in Keggle?

I built two just recently. One for my HLT and one for my boiler. In both cases I have welded 1/2" female connectors installed as close to the bottom of the keggle, just above the curve into the bottom of the keggle. I then used Watts A-324 1/2" MPT to 5/8" compression fittings. They...

    10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler thickness

bump. I have the same question. Has anyone ever measured the thickness? Someone must have drilled theirs to put in a sight glass or thermometer so they should be able to answer this one. Help me out if you can. Thanks

    Dip tube in Keggle?

Yes, but a dip tube using either a weldless or welded connector out of a drilled port as low in your keggle as possible can minimize your wort loss. They are easy to build out of 1/2 copper tubing, a 90 degree elbow, and a compression fitting.

    Anyone try these thermometers?

Anyone know where to find bulkhead based digital thermometers? I'd prefer that route to using a thermowell.
