Why is commercial beer getting more expensive?

CAD...but the price only goes up. It was $40 for a case back when we were at parity on the dollar.

    Oooo purty.

Why is commercial beer getting more expensive?

We pay $40 for a case of generic light lager here in Ontario, and sixpacks of decent craft beers go for $13+

    What kind of Sparge Arm?

if the "lay the hose on top" method creates too much channelling, you can always use the "plug the hose and then drill a whole bunch of really tiny holes in it" method.

    low profile connectors for kegs?

Hey all. I just finished making adding 6 inches of height to my keezer so it can fit my 15 gallon corny kegs. Buuut I screwed up - it's not tall enough to shut when the kegs have gas/liquid connectors on! Is there some kind of low-profile connector I can put onto the kegs? So far this is...

Brewing equipment would you love to have, but isn't being made by anyone

The market's positively flooded with custom stuff right now, but demand is high so I'm sure you could find a niche. I'd say one currently unmet niche would be for true sanitary, no-disassembly brew setups. Think integrated CIP, full drain, etc.

    Any word JonW?

Secondary aging - what minimum headspace

No oxidation risk - there's a layer of CO2 sitting on top of the beer thanks to the yeast.

2 most important things you learned/wish you knew

1 - I'm nowhere near as handy as I think I am, and trying to do things DIY on the cheap will be a nightmare. 2 - Starsan doesn't kill mold. 3 - the cheap grain mill is a trap. Don't do it.

    Simple 2 Vessel Plumbing

I think we're getting to fine enough details that the prudent brewer would say "try it out and see what works". I can definitely vouch that my brewery design and process has changed over time to account for unexpected behavior. Whirlpooling at different temperatures is indeed a thing. I use...

    Saving propane/time while winter brewing

Yeah brulosopher proved that 30 minute boils are fine, even with pilsner malt. I think he even had someone do gas chromatography to prove it too. My brew process is now a 30 minute mash, fly sparge 60 minutes (for a 10g batch), boil 30 minutes, chill to below 130, toss in the fridge, then pitch...

    Simple 2 Vessel Plumbing

Huh could've sworn that I saw them last year when I was researching my build. Can't find 'em on google, ebay, amazon, or aliexpress. Nevermind, 3-way valves are good buy you'll need two.

    Simple 2 Vessel Plumbing

If you want to direct fill the mash tun via the tap water, this should work. you can ditch the purge valve by using sight gauges - they're an opening for air to escape. I've had lousy experience using a purge valve - i find air pockets get trapped in the kettle fittings and then make their way...

    Simple 2 Vessel Plumbing

If you use a regular looped IC, you can place the spider inside its loops. (inside the loop of the immersion chiller). That's how I do it. You just size your IC to be narrow enough in diameter to leave the wort room to be stirred with the whirlpool. If you're set on a CFC, maybe try the...

    Simple 2 Vessel Plumbing

At 7 valves, there's still some simplifying you can do. I just sketched up something for ya. 3x3way valves and an immersion chiller instead of CFC. Waaaay less resistance this way. And immersion chillers can be quite fast, faster than CFCs. My basic 25' 3/8 copper chiller gets my 5g batch...

    Saving propane/time while winter brewing

I'll be using rockwool. Cheapish, fire resistant to something like 1000 degrees, and doesn't put out fumes. I don't really have the opportunity to experiment with this - I don't weld / have no equipment, so I'll be using my welder. Nice guy, made some bottom drain keggles for me for...

    Saving propane/time while winter brewing

In my case it's ability to boil I want. I'm doing 10gallon batches with a big banjo burner on natural gas, and it's already hard to get a boil without boosting via a 1100W heat stick. When it's subzero temperatures in a couple months it'll be even worse. I'm fine with aluminum. I'll be going...
