When should I bottle my wine?

If it's not clear I would just leave it be. Bulk aging is good and either way your wine is too young to drink yet. Leave it be and enjoy an other bottle from your collection.

Bottling a Lager - Will I need to add yeast

Ya this is my first lager so was not sure if there were some differences. I made an IPA a few months ago that I crash cooled before bottling to get some sediments out of suspencion. It never carbed properly so I always thought that the cold had taken too much of the yeast out. I guess it's...

    Lager quickly reached 1.02

when I've done a d-rest I leave it at room temperature. I also only start counting the d-rest time once the beer has reached that temperature. It can take a long time for 5gal of beer to warm up. I would not d-rest for a couple of weeks. Once you are at FG and not moving rack and then send...

    Different types of yeast

I think it's been all summed up. Liquid = more styles but you usually make a starter, Dry less styles but yet still very good, viable and you only "need" to rehydrate. I put need in quotations because there is a big debate still on the question of rehydrating or not dry yeast. Some say you...

Bottling a Lager - Will I need to add yeast

I know that applies to ales, but you don't think that the long period in a cold environment (2 celcius) would make most of the yeast drop out?

Bottling a Lager - Will I need to add yeast

Hey all, I have a Maybock that I've made and has lagered for 4 nice long months at 2C. I figure that most of the yeast has fallen out by now so I was wondering if I need to add more yeast when I'll bottle the beer. OG: 1.065 FG: 1.009 Yeast WLP833 3 weeks in primary, d-rest for 3...

WHAT in the bloody name of HELL is this?!?!

If I get too much break and trub in my fermentor then I'll wait to pitch as I'll rack it off.

    Dry hopping in primary help!

I agree with RM-MN that beers are different so you can't have a set schedule for all your beers. Your recipe and yeast you use can also have a lot to do with it too. I usually do leave the beer in primary for 3-4 weeks all depending on floculation. I never dry hop in primary so I always...

    Smells Sooo Good...

I brewed a batch of double IPA on the weekend and the first thing I heard when my wife came is was "WHAT IS THAT SMELL" and with a big smill I said..."wonderfull hops" yum!

    Boiled hops in my primary

So I made a 5 gal IPA today and I ended up using a total of 11.5 oz of hop pellets. I had then in a bag (muslin bag I think) when I was boiling. I pulled the bag out before chilling, chilled it in 7 minutes and poured it into my primary. Now I've noticed that there is A LOT of left over...

My first brew, suggestions needed on one point.

Thanks for the info. I'll make sure I keep a few gallons of bottles water on hand in case. Lesson learned.

My first brew, suggestions needed on one point.

I have 2 bottles of 1 gallon. One is a US gallon and the other is a UK gallon. So I measure my water depending on the recipe I follow by filling them up and adding them to my pot for the boil.

My first brew, suggestions needed on one point.

Hi all, I just wanted to share my experience on my first brew with you all. I made http://tastybrew.com/newrcp/detail/410 yesterday. I actually did start with a 3.5 gal boil as my pot could handle it and figured that i would benefit from more water in contact with the grains steeping and the...

Noob Plan for Festa Brew Double Oatmeal Stout

I've read on the web here and there the following rule of thumb 1, 2, 3. 1 week in primary 2 weeks secondary 3 weeks in bottles how true is that?

Noob Plan for Festa Brew Double Oatmeal Stout

Quick question about the FG. In the instructions (yes I know everyone says NOT to read the instructions) but it says "FG should be around 1.009 to 1.018 depending on the bear type" WOW, now that is specific! YOu mentioned that you wanted yours at 1.020, any reason for that? Mine has been...

    airlock overflow

I'm very new at this so by all means do not take my advise at the answer to the problem but check it out online and in the forum. I've seen people put a "over flow" hose where the hole for your airlock goes. Then the hose drops into a bucket that has satinized water in it. Just enough so...

Noob questions to Vintners from a Brewer

Hi, I'm doing the opposite, going from wine to beer! I've brewed for 3 years now and he's what I've learned. 1. I've always used the yeast that was provided without any problems 2. I,ve always put on the lid loosely on the primary (and so does my local wine supply shop) with no...

Noob Plan for Festa Brew Double Oatmeal Stout

Hey, Noob here starting his first batch of Festa Brew Double Oatmeal Stout. I'm so new I can honesly say I know nothing about beer making but when I saw that the Festa Brew instructions where so generic, I figured there had to be more to this. I took the calculator...
