    oktoberfest flavor from an ale

    Any good clean ale yeast fermented on the cool end of the range will do. There are a couple of good Oktoberfest ale recipes in the database (the one I know off the top of my head is called OktoberFAST ale): you might look around in there for some recommendations.

    My kids are 6 and 3 (next week). Every one needs a little time apart from the kids one or two weekends a month. Your time could well be spent brewing (tell her it's cheaper than golf... :D) BTW...that time away from the kids thing? Don't forget SWMBO will need a break now and again too. :D
