Black Tuesday Clone - The Bruery

First sugar addition was totally devoured. Added 2nd 12oz feeding. Estimating the adjusted OG is now 1.137. Using the high ABV equation for calculating ABV, that puts me ~16.6% if this 2nd feeding is likewise devoured. I'll need (5) total feedings to get to 20%.

Black Tuesday Clone - The Bruery

I ended up pitching that whole S-04 yeast cake. That's what got me down to 1.045 (from 1.124) as of Saturday, when I pitched my 3L starter of WLP099. I mashed at 148° for 75 minutes and boiled for 2-hrs. I left the wort at 65° until 24-hrs after audible signs of fermentation (hearing the...

Black Tuesday Clone - The Bruery

I checked my gravity at Day 4 and was down to 1.045 (from 1.124). I pitched 3L starter of WLP099 on SAT. I plan to begin incremental feedings tonight.

Peltier Chips Directly Attached to SS Conical?

Hmm, you have a YouTube vid of that up? I saw that earlier today. The curvature issue makes sense. I really liked the idea of leaving my conical 'naked' but it sounds like I'll be better off with a jacket of some sort. Thanks for the replies!

Peltier Chips Directly Attached to SS Conical?

I guess what still doesn't make sense to me is the difference in affixing the chip to an aluminum block or a steel vessel with beer in it. Why would one freeze up the chip but not the other? I believe you, I just don't understand the difference.

Peltier Chips Directly Attached to SS Conical?

Thanks. Seems to me the SS vessel would disperse the heat also. Probably not as much as an addition metal block, but enough so that fermenting wort on the other side wouldn't freeze. Curious if anyone has tried it. Another curiosity... Anyone tried anything other than aluminum blocks?

Peltier Chips Directly Attached to SS Conical?

If there is some discussion on this, I'm unable to find it. I've see a couple places that sell aluminum blocks to mount peltier chips and heat sinks to. My question is, why can't you attach the peltier chips directly to the SS vessel? First I was thinking, the aluminum cools and spreads the...

Peltier cooler on a conical. Experience?

I believe you probably just answered this question since you couldn't get the lager below 55°, but have you been able to cold crash at all since? thx

Black Tuesday Clone - The Bruery

I brewed this up yesterday. Came in at 1.124 of 6-gallons wort. I'm planning on pitching 1/2 the yeast cake from a previous 1.060 stout with (2) packs of S-04. That is one huge beer. Hope all of this goes well!! Ingredients: ------------ Amt Name...

    Bourbon County Stout clone attempt

Sorry, I meant it would be illegal for GI to add bourbon. We can do wtf we want! We're home brewers!!

    Bourbon County Stout clone attempt

Just FYI, it's illegal to add liquor to beer. There is some sort of grace for a small amount of residual in the barrel.

Achieving a silky/pillowy/creamy mouthfeel (a la Hill Farmstead)?

I'm pretty sure HF pasteurizes and rep itches bottling yeast. Don't think you can harvest from their bottles. At least not current bottles.

    Floppy wort chiller

I did what Genghis did. I had some spare romax cable I used, whatever gauge that is.

    Moo-Hoo Clone

I'm planning something similar. I plan to add 4oz Ghirardelli 100% cocoa powder with ~5' left in the boil. Once fermentation has completed, I'm going to add 4oz cocoa nibs and a split vanilla bean for a 1-2 wks. I feel like the powder is necessary to get the chocolate flavor packed in there...

    Moo-Hoo Clone

So, latest batch of Moo-Hoo dropped recently. Anyone else taken any stabs at this?

Blichmann Beer Gun or is it?

@augiedoggy - O-Ring then? Or truly just a built-in right angle and no way to seal it? If that's the case, maybe I can find a comparable piece locally to replace it. I'll just wait and see what I get.

Blichmann Beer Gun or is it?

@Gnomebrewer - do you have all your threads taped? I figured I'd take it apart and tape all the connections before hooking up CO2.

Blichmann Beer Gun or is it?

Just curious (honestly, waving the white flag with you), do you feel the same way prescription drugs? Do you continue to buy the more expensive name brand who spent all the time and money in R&D to bring the drug to market? Or do you buy the generics? I see this very much in the same light...

Question about testing your beer in the Market

Each state has their own wonky rules. I recall California having some new law that they thought would be a good thing, but ended up not allowing homebrewers to give their beer away free (and they obviously couldn't sell it). I'm not sure how that ended. I recall it put the NHC in jeopardy...
