California Fermentation Refridgerator free. San Jose to Tracy local

i have a smallish fridge that I’ve used as a fermentation fridge with an ink bird controller. It holds 4 seven gallon fermonster containers. It works great. Does not come with the controller. I switched to a bottom freezer unit. Free!

    Love my Tilt Hydrometer!

I frequently have 6 fermenters going at once and brew 12-15 gallon batches. I use one tilt per batch and keep the fermenters housed together. So it's only reporting on 1/3 of the total volume - but the behavior of individual fermenters within each batch is pretty consistent.

    Love my Tilt Hydrometer!

Calibrated in water only (single point cal - not ideal) It's within 0.005 of my regular glass hydrometer. (which is also only zero verified) I think...

    Love my Tilt Hydrometer!

Yes it's expensive... I've used it on a couple batches so far (it was a christmas present) The volume of data this thing delivers when connected to the cloud is really impressive. Temperature and specific gravity. Every 15 minutes. The mystery is gone! I have it feeding data into an old...

    Recycled Bottles!!

That's hilarious. I haven't had the stones to take bottles out of the trash. I ended up buying Grolsch (full) from bevmo with their $10 off $50 coupons. End up around $1.57 a bottle. I have bought used grolsch bottles from other guys. Some of them did need significant cleaning and new gaskets.

Making the jump to 3-gallon from 1-gallon

I went from 5 to 10 to 15 gallon batches. So, there’s always some moron like me selling stuff on Craigslist for cheap. Go for 5. Everything is geared for 5. Buy used stuff. It’s cheap. Sold a 15 gallon ported pot for 75. Sold a 10 gal mash tun cooler for 65...

    Propane burner suggestions

Electricity can be expensive. In California - above Tier I, the kWh is running $0.40. While that is truly ridiculous - it does influence behavior. I brew 12-14 gallons at a time in a 26 gallon pot which is 19" in diameter. So Im a fan of burning fuels. I have both the SP10 and the KAB4. The...

When I brew, it doesn’t have any alcohol in it. They can arrest the yeast cells.

    Burners: SP10 vs KAB4

Correct. It is not code compliant. It is temporary however. The hose is attached and detached for each use. It is also outside of the structure. 403.6 Plastic pipe, tubing and fittings. Plastic pipe, tubing and fittings shall be used outside, underground, only, and shall conform to ASTM D...

    Burners: SP10 vs KAB4

Update: I converted it to natural gas by drilling the orofice out to 1/8". A few connectors to go from flare to NPT. I'm using a flex 1/2" air line from Harbor freight as a temp line from the meter to the burner in the garage. The meter has a T used as a pressure test point. Pulled that plug...

Taking the Refractometer Plunge--Help Me Select One

I have the itavah. It zeros perfectly. I still need to compare it with my standard hydrometer. It's really easy to use for wort. For fermented stuff, not so much. I haven't found an obvious converter to account for the ethanol.

    Burners: SP10 vs KAB4

ive been using the bayou classic SP10 for about a year when I discovered brewing. I bought it years ago for steaming crabs in Bodega bay. (Mmmmmmm). Well, after 10-12 gallon batches started 6 months ago, the weakness of the SP10 was starting to show. It works fine, but slow. I looked at the top...

    Anvil Stainless Fermenter

I have one of these as well. Received it in November 2017. Ebay purchase. It's a solid unit. Positives: Crazy easy to clean Large size Great handles When you lift it, the airlock doesn't go crazy (vs plastic) Negatives: The lack of transparency is a big negative for me. To the point...
