    Recipe from BeerSmith?

Ya that's what I thought. The Sierra Nevada brewery here in Chico, CA doesn't seem to have a problem using the water...(although they probably treat it) Thanks for the advice everyone!

    Recipe from BeerSmith?

Ya I've been looking at recipes in both places, HBT and beersmith. I liked the one in beersmith because it seemed simple, and rye beers are delicious. I think I will take Rivercity's advice and tone down the rye a bit. In reference to the recipe, is it really necessary to use the calcium...

    Recipe from BeerSmith?

Hi yall Been looking into all-grain recipes and I found this one on Beersmith that sounded interesting. Anyone ever try it? Thoughts? The following is just copied and pasted from Beersmith.... Thanks! Capt Smith Rye Specialty, Experimental, Historical Beer Type: All Grain...

American Strong Ale Arrogant Bastard clone

26 quarts. Ya that probably won't work. What about....using 6-7 bottling bucket as mash tun? Or is it not well-enough insulated... Sorry for hijacking the thread. Last question I swear!

American Strong Ale Arrogant Bastard clone

Ah of course. Should have made that connection. This would put the total brew volume to 11.31g. As I said, I'm looking at this recipe for my first AG. Next question: what if I normally use the brew kettle to steep grains in a grain sack? In other words, the brew kettle is the mash tun....

American Strong Ale Arrogant Bastard clone

So...I'm still a little confused about the volume of the original recipe. The 5.31g of mash water is drained and discarded. The grains still in the tun are then sparged with 3g hot water, followed by two more sparges at 3g each? This would bring the total volume to 9g? Thanks. looking forward...

    Good PM Pilsener recipe

Thanks Yoop. I think I'll steer away from the CC recipe, considering I've never heard of that kit either...let alone I have no idea if the HBS carries it. I'm having second thoughts about a cream ale too. Although I've never tried one, I'm not sure if I would very much enjoy a brew tasting...

    Good PM Pilsener recipe

    Hmm A cream ale certainly sounds worth a shot. Here's a few recipes I found: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/honey-cream-ale-recipe-s-62441/ Cheesefood's recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/caramel-cream-ale-recipe-question-9630/ I also found a recipe in a book I have: Type:California...

    Good PM Pilsener recipe

That's what I thought. I'd like to use this stuff for something rather than having it just sit around. The ants at the picnic for my pilsen idea is I won't be able to get proper fermenting temperatures anyway, considering the absence of an extra fridge. Is there any type of ale I can use...

    Good PM Pilsener recipe

Hi yall I have here a 2# bag of "light" DME that was given to me by the guy I bought my brew kit off of. Since I spent a few months this summer in Prague, I'm thinking I could use this DME to brew a delicious pilsener to remember the good times abroad. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a...

Enough aeration? I think my yeast is suffering!

Yes! There was quite a bit of foam when I poured it in. (little bit of spillage too) I think next time I might try siphoning from the brew pot to the carboy (through the strainer as well) and then stirring the heck out of it. I would try an aquarium pump, but then I thought about some...

Enough aeration? I think my yeast is suffering!

Thank you, sir. I shall certainly do something along those lines for the next batch. The burning question I still have is....will this batch be okay with as little fermentation action as I'm seeing...?

Enough aeration? I think my yeast is suffering!

I like that. Too bad I don't have a drill! Maybe I could spin it between my hands like I was trying to make a fire. :D I've heard of people using air pumps from fish tanks to "bubble" some air into the wort. yes?/no?

Enough aeration? I think my yeast is suffering!

So did my first full boil batch the other day. Naturally, I was excited to have the right equipment to do this. My method of transfer this time around was the same for all the other times. Basically, after the wort is cooled I pour it through a strainer and a funnel to filter spent hops. Of...

Boiling ~6 gal on gas stove?

Update: SO I went by Cash and Carry to see what they have. Some decent cookware of course, but they wanted waaay too much for it. Looks like instawares.com it is! Also, went down to Lowes to check out some copper tubing. Here's the breakdown I got: 3/8" (0.5"OD) 20' coiled copper...

Boiling ~6 gal on gas stove?

Holy b'jesus! 132 bones? While I'm sure it's worth it, I also need some money left over to get an immersion chiller to go along with it. So I went down to the brew shop to see what they had. Sadly, no brew pots like I was looking for. Everything was too tall. But, they did have a really nice...
