    Periodic Table of Beers

I got a shirt similar to that for a gift. I wear it quite often.

    ball or pin lock kegs

As stated above they are different sizes. If you already have a fridge you are thinking about using for beer, the sizes may make a difference. I have both and dont really mind switching connectors as needed. With the threaded it isnt that big a deal, if you have a manifold with valves. If you...

    OK to harvest overpitched yeast?

So overpitching makes the same yeast cells do all the work? Too many yeast cells for them to reproduce?

    ball or pin lock kegs

I have both. The connectors are different but you can just have both styles of connectors, no big deal. I would get any kegs u find that are inexpensive and in good shape.

    OK to harvest overpitched yeast?

Hello all I kegged an IPA with Notty yeast, then dumped apple juice and 1 lb honey right back into the 5 gallon carboy. 24 hours later fermentation is blowing enough co2 out the airlock it is hissing, at first I thot a keg was leaking. Anyway, the juice may be a bit overpitched. Will this...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Kegged 5 gallons of Simcoe APA yesterday. Dumped apple cider and a lb of honey right back in carboy, on top of Notty yeast and some Simcoe hops. Might be interesting. Going like crazy today. Kegging porter today.

    Started my first cider today

Brewed a few beers and meads over the last 10 years but never a cider. Today I kegged an IPA (CDA), then poured 5 gallons of apple juice onto the Nottingham yeast cake, with 1 lb of honey for the sugar. update: very active fermentation this morning, blowing enough co2 thru the airlock it is...

Beginner here. How to start? Money is no object!

If I started over again... A big enough pot. I have a 32 quart stainless pot and it does fine, but I dont all grain yet. Lots of people suggest a 10 gallon pot tho for 5 to 6 gallon batches. Carboys. I have a couple 5 and 6 gallon glass, just got a plastic better bottle to try...

    PID Temp controller

Have you tried turning the temp down on controller when the element is powered? This should fully stop any controller output/ssr input, helping to check if ssr is really sticking on. You could also try a fan on the heatsink.

My girlfriend loves to to drink my starter wort/beer

Why waste I say. It is beer after all, just without hops. I dont know why it doesnt get factored into the recipe and just put in the fermentor.

How can I convert this Chest Freezer into a Temp. Controlled Fermentation Chamber?

Takes a little wiring with a temp controller, but thats it. The temp controller is wired so the freezer plugs into the controller, and the controller plugs in to the wall. Temp sensor for controller is put inside freezer, preferably the fermentor for better accuracy. Controller in your freezer...

    Brew store

I agree with the above, be considerate of your customers. And be honest. If they ask specific questions out of your area of knowledge, help get them the answer if you can but dont skirt around the question. When they ask what a good beer is, keep in mind individual taste is, well, individual...

cheap way to control fermentation temp?

Many people feel that a temp controller is one of the single best investments they have made to help beer quality. The STC1000 gets good reviews, about 20 bucks.

Possible bottling failure, can I salvage with my new kegs?

As above, siphoning is suggested. Might consider filling keg with co2 first. You could use a sanitized container big enough to allow you to pour the beer into it while the bottle is in a layer of co2. Maybe use a bottling bucket with the hose going into your keg, very slight amount of co2...

    Better Bottle Blow Off Tube

How much trub was removed? It doesnt take much to clog a 1/2" line. If you use the 1/2" I would lightly place the stopper on, so if it does build pressure the stopper will just push out. Use an overflow container ( I use my boil kettle).
