    Could use some advice

Oh so true. Wait until you can't stand to wait another minute. Then wait two more weeks! :)

    Could use some advice

You should get beer. Not great beer but beer none the less. Fresh is best, but malt extract, which I'm sure you have used, really doesn't go bad. The older it gets the darker the beer and the more chance of off flavors you may get. The white stuff is normal. Beer looks really gross until...

    Off Flavor Question

It really would help if you could better explain a little better how you perceive the off flavor. There are so many that listing just a few that it doesn't taste like leaves too much room for error in guessing. Mold, peanut butter, horse blanket, wet cardboard, banana, cidery, grassy, sweaty...

The experiment did not have malt beer

I made a batch of this beer https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/george-washingtons-small-beer.429161/. It was really nasty, drinkable, but not good. Basically the same idea, Wheat bran for some flavor and body, corn syrup for fermentation. Now, I often use some cracked corn for added...

Hello, and Welcome, from Western New York.

    Sunday Morning

Happy St. Patrick's Day. It's a cool 32*F here in western New York. A light snow is falling, though the warm weather of the last few days has melted most of the snow that has cover the ground for months. Today is not supposed to be very nice, so I imagine I will help SWMBO shampoo the...

    Possible silly bottling question

Set it aside and let it ride. Pulling it out of temp control at this point won't likely make any difference in the flavor profile and the extra heat may help it finish out.

Need help with my first home brew.

^^^^^^I second the advise BrewInspector posted. Have patients, let it ride as long as you can stand, then a little longer. Keep it as cool as you can. Enjoy.

How many times should I re-pitch the same yeast?

It occurred to me that I have saved and re-pitched the same US-05 yeast at least a dozen times. I have not yet noticed any off flavors or other issues. When should I stop re-pitching? Is there a magic # of ferment cycles that a single package of yeast should be used for?

    How long do you ferment?

Dry hopping is the addition of hops into the fermentor, not the boil. It is usually done to IPA's and APA's.

    How long do you ferment?

First, welcome. Secondly, fermentation can take anywhere from 3 days to a month or more. There are many factors that influence the time it takes to finish a batch of beer. The starting gravity has a huge influence on the time line as does the temperature of the fermenting beer, and the type...

    Answers & input appreciated, thanks.

You will likely get drinkable beer and cider. More than that is hard to say. Those kits don't generally make exceptional beer, but if proper brewing practices were followed and fermentation temps are kept at the very bottom of the yeasts temp range it should turn out fair. The best thing you...

    I just joined. Hello everyone

Hello, and welcome from the other side of the country. Hope we can be of assistance. Best advise I can give you is to grab a copy of "The Complete Joy of home brewing" by Charlie Papazian", or "How to Brew" by John Palmer. Both great books and must reads for every new brewer. Then just dive...

Maple syrup season= free RO water

I thought it might be worth a mention to all those who don't know, but here in the north east part of the US, we are in the heart of maple sugar/syrup season. Maple syrup is produced by concentrating the sap of sugar maple trees into the finished product. This was originally done by boiling...
