Walking cold room. Important to vent?

What would venting be for? Any air out means warmer, moist air in (which will cause condensation). You really want it as airtight as possible.

Anvil Brewing cooling system - anyone use yet?

the volume (4.4cu ft) means nothing if the depth or height doesn't allow it to fit.

How many of you have rapid fermentations?

I’m not sure I agree that the only reason to age is to cover up poor brewing practices (especially when talking RIS or stuff like barkeywine, anything oaked, etc). As for the Brulosophy argument - I have to wonder how many brewers ‘back in the day’ got together and were like ‘that Papazian is a...

BRUT IPA: What is your favorite aroma hop?

Thanks! Much appreciated. I’ve not hard to waiting to add enzyme until DH. I’m intrigued. What is the reason to add later (rather than at yeast pitch)?

BRUT IPA: What is your favorite aroma hop?

I may try the simcoe with mosaic. Some people get a cat pee from mosaic and I can see where they get it. Maybe paired with Simcoe it is different.

Epic Passivation Battles of History.....Spike Vs SS Brewtech

OK, I just got a brand new SS Brewtech brew kettle. Very nice piece of metal! SS Brewtech says that passivation is necessary. https://ssbrewtech.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/206532036-What-acids-can-I-use-to-passivate-my-Stainless- Spike says it's a lot about nothing, with some university...

    DIY keg fridge?

You can catch the condensate and run it to a drain OR use a condensate pump. They are pretty cheap. The next question is - can your space, in the heat of summer, accommodate the heat load of running the air conditioner....normally a window AC would eject this heat outdoors, but you'll be...

Hit The Jack Pot so I'm Moving to Kegging

@madscientist451 gives good advice here on the 20lb tank....but it isn't a cheaper route for a lot of us - make sure you have someplace to fill a 20lb cylinder first. It only saves money if you don't have to drive an hour+ each way to get it done. It's worth checking who will fill what, and...

Hit The Jack Pot so I'm Moving to Kegging

For plumbed lines it doesn't make much difference - but for picnic tap lines, I prefer a tubing that is not stuff - it makes putting the tap back how you want it easier, and makes it easier to orient the tap how you need it for a pour. I have one picnic tap line that is way too stiff and it is...

Too good of a deal on kegs?

Pin-locks are slightly bigger around, so you may have room in for fridge for more ball locks. Pin locks are slightly shorter, so you may be able to get them in a low-height fridge easier. To me - they money saved on pin-lock isn't worth it. Accessories don't generally work with pin-lock...

Hit The Jack Pot so I'm Moving to Kegging

If you purge well enough you'll be fine with that headspace. If you fill with sanitizer and use CO2 to push the sanitzier out...there is virtually no O2. What I did was purge the keg with CO2, fill, then bottled off of the keg so that the headspace got backfilled with CO2. I have an extra...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I went through the posts and didn't see krausen mentioned. For different yeasts I use, I can pretty much guess how much krausen I will get on a particular beer at a particular ferm temp. If this ferments so violently and fast, do you have a large krausen? I usually prepare and manage...

Hit The Jack Pot so I'm Moving to Kegging

You have great advice here on kegging - so I'll comment on your bottle supply. Don't get rid of the swingtops, and keep some regular bottles around. First thing you know you're going to want to brew a bourbon barrel RIS, a strong belgian, barleywine, or something that is either too 'big' to...

Where did you get your bag?

I also use a Wilser bag and it is very nice for the price. Grab a pulley and some hob bags while you're shopping. The hop bags are also very nice.

Does co2 impact the efficiency of soap?

I think the key here is that soap implies use of something that includes a surfactant (like oil or fat) - and most of us are not using soap on any of our brewing equipment, ever. Those who do use it mostly use it to clean things they can see and reach.....kegs, lines, dip tubes not being among...

    Possible LHBS startup

I don't buy any argument that college kids just want cheap beer, and aren't drinking craft beer. That does not line up with what I see in breweries in any college town I go to. The real fact is, that college kids and twentysomethings are drinking less overall - and a trend seems to be that...

The craft beer bubble is busting.

Being an east coaster who has travelled to the midwest and from Maine to FL, I thought Bells was nationwide. Not so much.....I wonder how many 'craft' beers not owned by BMC actually see nationwide distribution.

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

I’ve brewed this 3 times among other beers (many) and each time I brewed it I liked it less - I’m starting to think it just isn’t that great of a beer really. I’d like to ‘fix’ it, but personally I have moved on.

The craft beer bubble is busting.

Those are a drop in the bucket these days. There are a ton of really great breweries now - a ridiculous amount for the size of the city.
