    Hop Pre-Orders

I ordered mine from Glen this past spring and they did quite well, FWIW. I'll be ordering more this upcoming spring!

    Go Yeast Go!

I caught the little buggers just as they began to breach the airlock. Could have had a mess on my hands! This is my first time ever needing a blowoff... I was thrilled!

    Question about Cream Stout

Awesome, thanks for all the help! Wort is collected, getting ready to get the boil going :)

    Question about Cream Stout

I'm looking over a recipe for making cream stout and I was wondering... when do you add the lactose in an all-grain recipe? Probably a silly question but I'd hate to screw it up by not knowing. Thanks!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed 5 gal of Janet's Brown Ale this past Monday, and I'm brewing 5 gallons of cream stout tomorrow. Now that it's stopped raining long enough for the yard to dry I should probably be out mowing... but I have priorities, dammit.

    chinook vs. willamette

For what it's worth, I planted 3 rhizomes this past spring: Cascade, Nugget and Willamette. I ended up getting 17-foot bines and a decent amount of cones on both the Cascade and the Nugget. The Willamette ended up being about 9 feet and no cones. Color was good and the plant looked healthy...

Done. Hope it helps! I'll be interested to see the results.

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

*sigh* +1 This one lasted about 6 hours. Long enough to get it home from the LHBS, take a final gravity reading on the last batch, and then crush it while making the new batch. Note to self... when you designate an area to store the hydrometer while brewing so that you DON'T break it, you...

Is this a Mutant or something else

I had a couple of these on my first-year Nugget as well. I wasn't sure what to do with them at the time, but I figured if it had lupulin, I wasn't going to throw them away!

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

+1 Had a few friends over last brew day because they were interested in the process. Someone tried to take a hydrometer reading on 150-degree wort and then 'clean' the hydrometer in the bucket of 50-degree sanitizer solution. "Get the hydrometer so we can take another reading." "You...

    Centennial Hops

My LHBS was out of them as well when I was in there a few weeks ago. He mentioned that they were very hard to get right now.

    Oh no! Foam!

I had a buddy that came over and wanted to try one of the first extract batches I had ever made. They were bottle conditioned, so I was pouring it slowly into the glass so as not to disturb the bottom. Being a self-proclaimed 'beer expert', he made the comment, 'Pour that stuff in there, I...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Going to try out the Black Widow Porter recipe from BCS tomorrow. I was pleased with the APA recipe from there so I figured I'll try another one from that book. And no, I will not be adding spiders to the wort. ;)

    CO2 Current Pricing

Local welding supplier charges $24 and change for a 10# replacement, they don't do refills. Needless to say, I've been looking around for a cheaper alternative.

    beersmith...did I f up?

Yes, as the above post states... those times refer to 'how much time left in the boil' for the additions. But let us know how that ends up! With both being lower AA hops, it might end up pretty good :)

    Warning signs of homebrew addiction

When your 4 year-old son is playing at preschool and asks the teacher, 'I'm making some beer... what kind do you like?' My wife had fun explaining that one when she picked him up that day :P
