    aerating/oxygenating- what's your method?

On lower gravity beers (< 1.060), I usually stick a sanitized funnel on the carboy and pour on the side of that. It gives me a pretty good mixing action as it funnels down and splashes into the carboy. While I'm doing this, I pour my rehydrated dry yeast into the funnel as well and use the wort...

Just got the new "Cereal Killer" Grain Mill

I'm curious to see how it performs for you. I had one of the earlier models which ended up getting replaced. Hopefully they've made some major improvements!

Is it ok to brew beer if I don't have a beard ??

Chris Rock had a skit where he mentioned something that could be applied to brewing without a beard... "You can drive a car with your feet if you want to, but that don't make it a good f__kin' idea!"

By Golly do I love a good porter.

Here, here! Edmund Fitzgerald is still one of my favorite commercial brews. It's the beer that started me thinking 'if I could brew something like this, I'd probably never buy beer again'. The 'Black Widow' robust porter from Brewing Classic Styles is a great beer as well. I've made it a...

The glasses you use for drinking your brews

Because the thing in the front of the pic goes on the bottom and lights up! Those are seriously the glasses that I give buddies that I know are bound to have more than a couple... because if they drop those I won't cry. I will cry if they drop these pint glasses... The wife had...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

OK... I think I've found what I need to make the adjustments, but I'd like to get some more opinions before I start messing with stuff. I'm working with a Kenmore 675-19512 OJ Freezer, if that helps. What's the general consensus... is this the screw I'm looking for?

Sale on Coolers at Kmart (great mash tuns)

I bought the 52-quart last year when they had a similar sale. Works great, holds temps very well.

    What was your first brew?

Love that Booster! LOL A gift from the wife when I mentioned that I was interested in learning about this homebrew stuff. Now she has no one to blame but herself for all the gear in the basement and the 20 ft. tall hops pole in the back yard ;)

Fatheads is great! Looks like they've got cask-conditioned Head Hunter currently available as well. :) Here's their current draft list.

Is the Coleman Xtreme 52 to Big for 5 Gallon Batches.

I've got the same cooler, with this manifold design... I was going to add a couple more intersecting arms across the long runs, but it's worked so well that I never bothered. I use it mostly for 5-gallon batches, but I have done 10-gallon batches as well. It holds temps really well and...

    all out of PBW...

I follow pretty much the same procedure. In my experiences, the OxyClean doesn't work quite as well as PBW (I typically end up filling/soaking twice with OxyClean), but using a bit more to achieve the same results is still less expensive than buying PBW. I'd probably be able to get away with...

Manifold pipes - getting the plastic bits out...

When I first made mine, I had the same problem. What I ended up doing (and there's probably a much easier way to do it) was taking a long pipe cleaner brush similar to this... ... and used it to clean out as much as I could. After that, I took a razor knife and cleaned out each cut that...

What do you use as a secondary for 10 gal batches?

What spare vessels do you have available? The cornies would work just fine if you've got them. You can also split it up into 2 5-gallon carboys. Either would be a good way to minimize dead space.

Keggle owners: What size is your opening on top?

Anything less than 12 is respectable!
