Another reason why Michigan is a Great Beer State!

This really makes me proud to be a Michigan resident and an AHA member.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

I used Denny's, I didn't use whirlfloc/Irish moss, and it when straight to the keg after 4 weeks in the primary. I'm probably just gonna throw in some gelatin and hope for the best before Thanksgiving lol.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

Hmmmm, I thought I had hit all my temps, I might have mashed a little cooler then I should have.... but I let that glass sit for awhile and there is a good amount of yeast in the glass... so I think it might be that it didn't flocculate.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

Mine turned out really cloudy. What could have caused this? I followed the recipe exactly but fermented a little on the warm side. I didn't crash cool like I originally plan so I just racked to the keg. It tastes amazing but is very cloudy.

best time to swap blowoff tube out for airlock

+1 on this. I usually get some pretty active fermentation and the krauzen marches about 3" up the blow off tube. But back to the OP, just wait til the fermentation slows and then replace the air lock

    Cleaning blow off tube?

I use a bottle brush. Its a tight fit but it works really well.

    Training my palate.

Thanks Rev, I've seen SMaSH before but never bothered to look it up before. I'll probably go that route. I'll have to look for those brands. I don't think I've seen them but then again I haven't bought beer in a long time lol

    Training my palate.

I'm an ag brewer and I'm just trying to get a good handle on all the different ingredients. I've been brewing for over a year and I still feel like I'm on day one with ingredient selection and knowledge.

    Training my palate.

Never thought of that lol thanks

    Training my palate.

This might have been done before but the search button has failed me, so here is the question. I would like to train my palate to detect the differences in hops so what I would like to do is make a series of IPAs that focus on a single hop. These will be small batches like 2 or 3 gallons and I...

    AG stand...

I'm making one out of t-slot and so far its going pretty good, I used faztek.net for the stuff and also there is a post somewhere of the finished product. I'll link it in just a second. But it'll be about $500 complete with two burner tiers and one shelf tier. That price includes kettles and all...

I pitched a little to warm.

Thanks Jon, I got it down to 66. So hopefully there isn't to much banana lol

I pitched a little to warm.

So I made a pumpkin ale yesterday and as the title said I pitch at 74° (I know I'm supposed to pitch at fermenting temp.... but long story short that didn't happen) and I put it in my basement which is at about 65°. I'm using Wyeast 1450 Denny's and it said the maximum temp is 70° and the...

What does your LHBS do to keep you coming back?

Yeah I've been there, Bell's has better selection I think and the prices are better. But its not bad, it seems more wine focused. Your right about the pub too, they have better pub only beers then production beers to me. The food is decent as well.

What does your LHBS do to keep you coming back?

I just looked, I guess they raised their prices. $8 a case now. Still a hell of a deal IMO.
