i just plain don't believe this

Exactly my thoughts. The majority of these types of poles are bogus.

    How to keep it cheap?

I'm about to go to BIAB. After 5 extract batches I'm done. Seems I can save about $18-20 per batch alone. I'm also going to try and start washing, saving and even slanting yeasts. If I can cut out the yeast costs I think a batch will be around $20-$25. I'm also going to order hops by the...

    Another beginner error- underfilled fermenter

I just boiled more water with my priming sugar. Seemed to work fine.

    Contemplating moving to all grain

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm going to upgrade to a bigger kettle and go BIAB.

Not just new to brewing; new to beer

I love this. What made you want to home brew then? Regardless, I'd visit one of those bars with lots on tap, sit at the bar and confess your sins. If the bartender is worth their salt they will help you discover all sorts of things. Also a few places like Cost Plus World Market will sell...

So how long should it really take?

I would imagine they know it'll work (sort of) so they do that to get people drinking beer a bit sooner. It'd be hard to sign up for a lot of work knowing it might take 6-8 weeks for results. Most people just aren't patient enough!

    What are you drinking now?

Brewing my 5th batch so I popped my first bottle from my 2nd batch. Its an IPA and I have to say, its great! Its just at 2 weeks so I'm hoping it'll get even better in another week or two.

Got free bottles to give away? Post 'em here!

I'd love some in Long Beach Ca. Thanks!

Subbing and orbital shaker for a stirplate?

I saw one in use at Stone.

    San Diego Group Buy?

I'm in LA and might have a brewery connection. I'll work that and report back.

    Bootleggers Knuckle Sandwich

Agreed, but this was a lot more malt and not really all that bitter. It had a great nose. I believe it was around the 50 mark in IBUs, which is quite low for the style, if not too low.

    That'll be my next plan.

Batch #1 in the pint glass!

Agreed. I'm pretty sure another week will fix my head woes. Regardless though, I'm happy it is drinkable, at points I had lost all hope!

    Bootleggers Knuckle Sandwich

I found one recipe for a hops schedule but since this will need to be an extract I'm taking a WAG at the fermentables. The original had a huge rich complex malty front which is why I was going for 4 kinds of Crystal but would that just become too much? Should I cut some and increase others...

Batch #1 in the pint glass!

Now that I didn't do... Doooh!

    Bootleggers Knuckle Sandwich

I recently had a pint of Knuckle Sandwich (IIPA) on tap at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. It was possibly the best beer I've had in a year. For the life of me I can't find much of anything on a recipe much less their hops or IBUs. Does anybody have any ideas or have an idea? If you've got...
