question on hop stopper or false bottom

so, i have a question on building a hop stopper vs. using a domed false bottom in my brew pot. the pot i have is 9 gallons with a ball valve (viewed here). i use good ol' gravity to feed my counterflow chiller. during my last brew, i had a little slow down issue because of some pellet hops...

First AG in the bag... well in the fermenter

So, I now have the yellow stripe on my bumper for an AG'er. That's a rookie, for those non-NASCAR fans. :) Going into this, I didn't know what was going to happen or what to really expect. I started off as I do every session (heh, like I'm some pro or something...I've only done this four...

    brew kettle + siphon filter?

hey all... just wondering if any of you (who do not have a valve on your kettle) use a filter on the end of the siphon? i siphon my wort out via gravity through the chiller. during my last batch, i plugged my chiller (internally) with an orange peel... not good... so, i'm wondering if you...

Batch Number 3, goes down hill quickly...

haha, that's what i was thinking. I told her, "well this could have been inside and all over the floor, under the stove, etc..." I've got to do a sympathy brew session in a few weeks... you know, to make up for a boil over. :) One question though, what can I expect from this mishap? I'm...

Batch Number 3, goes down hill quickly...

So, I brewed my third batch yesterday and it was supposed to be a wheat, Wounded Trout Wheat. Murphy's Law was present during this boil. I should have seen the signs and stopped :). Heh, who am I kidding... I had to have one of my previous homebrews and enjoy the day! You can read the...

    mouthfeel a little off???

i've poured a few pints of my beer from the keg and so far it tastes great! the only thing that is a little concerning is the mouthfeel seems a bit too thick for an American Amber.... well, its really more of an IPA since it's a touch on the hoppy side for an amber. do you guys have any...

Is there a first time kegging tutorial around here?

from what i understand, you can carbonate using priming sugar but it would take a few weeks (just like bottling). you could also carbonate using the force carbonation method. hit it with 30 psi for a few days, and you should be good. you'll want to drop that psi down quite a bit when you go...

    How To Set A Regulator

i have one of those new taprite regulators from kegconnection.com and it has a simple dial. just dial it to the pressure needed no screws or anything like that... it's real easy to adjust.

    Second batch, in the keg...wahoo!!!

i built that table for practically nothing, the 2x4's were scrap. it was pretty nice using that table on the last batch. i'm thinking about adding some casters to the legs. the kegs were 40.00 combined off of craigslist (my lbs had them for a lot more). i didn't find a great deal on full...

    Second batch, in the keg...wahoo!!!

yeah, i think i'll do that next time. if i decide to bottle any, i'll buy those bottle sugar drops instead of mixing the sugar in the bottling bucket. thanks for the keglube tip, i'm gonna get some of that stuff before batch #3. i believe the keg holds pressure pretty well, i haven't...

    Second batch, in the keg...wahoo!!!

Well, this was my second batch of beer and my first adventure into kegging. I will say that it was easier that bottling. Things went ok, all-in-all, but I'm sure there were things that would have made my task smoother. This site has been a heck of a resource for brewing and kegging, thanks a...
