    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Getting prepped to brew a 10 gallon batch of this tomorrow. Mostly, I'm getting myself pumped up to grind the grain for it; it takes quite the mental preparation :)

Quality issue with Barproducts DTS-419 drip tray?

Hmm, maybe I don't know what a good drip tray is like. The only complaint I have with mine is that I don't have a quick way to remove the whole shebang for cleaning - but that's more my fault for how i installed it.

    What are you brewing

This past weekend I brewed up 10 gallons of an Irish Red I've brewed before. I'm also planning on a stout this upcoming weekend, and probably at least the arrogant bastard clone, if not the DFH 60 clone as well. 25 gallons this month seems about right :)

    Should I go AG?

If you give BIAB a whirl, the cost to move to all grain from extract is about $10 ($5 for a curtain and $5 to bribe my sister into letting me use her sewing machine). Of course, since then, I've bought a corona mill ($20), erlenmeyer flask ($18), and a few other odds and ends that I previously...

    Sharing is Fun

The first time I used it, it took me almost an hour to get a 6-er bottled up. The second time it was about half an hour, with a few explosions (pressure builds up in the bottle, I forgot to turn the picnic tap off and pulled the cork. Beer all over the place - mostly on me). This time, it was...

    Sharing is Fun

This afternoon I got a call from my girlfriend who was on the way back from vising her sister, with her parents. I had taken her down to visit her sister and brought along some of my home brews for her sister and brother-in-law to sample. Evidently her brother-in-law raved about the beer, and...

    Cream ale was a bust

Despite the fact that my cream ales have been "ready" in a couple of weeks (based on hydrometer reading), I've found that every glass improves until the keg is kicked. Definitely give this one more time before calling it a bust.

$16 Shipped for Pressure Cooker for us yeast ranchers!

I have never had a pressure cooker before, so its hard to compare, but I picked this up for $15 on the clearance racks at BB&B, and I'm happy with it. Thus far, I've only cooked artichokes, and if that gives perspective on size - we'd have to scrunch in four, and we usually only cook two...

    Mopar

Nice ride! I had a 2005 Magnum R/T and it was totaled this past Thanksgiving by some idiot who didn't see the red light or the big car stopped for said red light (and nailed me at about 40mph). I picked up this beaut as a replacement: #3806 of 4000. But man, those 392s have been putting...

    5L Flask

That is pretty comical looking. I thought my 2L flask was on the large side, but in the realm of plausibility but that 5L definitely makes mine look more normal.

    What happed to Guinness?

So that's what diacetyl is? Interesting. A buddy of mine and I picked up a 4-pack and were trying to figure out what the taste was. Definitely not something we expected. Thanks. My ability to describe flavors in beer has gone up now :)

    bottling brainfart..

I agree with others about the drops seeming like more work to me than batch priming. this is by no means a bashing of your process, whatever works for you, but the priming sugar is definitely cheaper and in my opinion easier than futzing around with individual tablets in each bottle...

Number of taps for 19.5" drip tray

I've got 4 over that same drip tray. I thought about adding a fifth, but I'd need more equipment inside the fridge (extra distributor, more hoses, etc.) and it just wasn't worth it to me. I also had a problem with the interior shelving on the door. I'd have to remove a lot of it to handle any...

Here Goes Nothing - Washing Pacman

I'm curious now - why is stepping up dregs for a 10 gallon batch a bad thing? I didn't just take the sediment from the bottle and dump it in, I stepped it up over several days to what I believed was an appropriate size based on the MrMalty calculator (and the numerous threads here about how to...

Here Goes Nothing - Washing Pacman

I probably mis-spoke. The starter was fun, its just not worth the effort with the US-05, considering I have a few packets of it sitting in the fridge. The pacman was fun to culture from dregs :) And the fact that those dregs turned into enough yeast to ferment 10 gallons of beer was...

Here Goes Nothing - Washing Pacman

Well, by some miracle, I was able to spool up enough yeast from a bottle of Shakespeare Stout and Yellow Snow to ferment 10 gallons of cream ale. That was three and a half weeks ago. At terminal gravity, I kegged both of those this evening* and proceeded to wash the pacman yeast. I can't...

    Received a Cool Compliment

This past weekend, my girlfriend and I were visiting her sister and brother-in-law, and I decided to bring along some of my homebrew because, well, why not? I brought along a few bottles of my cream ale, Irish red ale, stout and porter. Turns out her brother-in-law isn't a huge stout fan, so...

Putting in some taps this weekend

I mounted my distributor inside, and oddly enough there were already two plastic rivet type things in the fridge the same distance apart as the holes pre-drilled in my manifold. It worked out perfectly, though I'm not sure if the holes drilled in the manifold were there because most fridges...

    Badass beer

My brother offered to get one of my cornys filled when he went to MBC, and they have another lager that I tried and enjoyed. Nothing special, but it was a beer I'd enjoy having on tap. They were out or weren't filling cornys for that so he made a snap decision to go for the Badass Lager. I...

I want to force carb, what do I need to keg frugally...

The fridge serves as a means by which to keep the beer cold. If you're planning on consuming a lot of the beer quickly, or don't mind refilling a bucket with ice frequently, then that works just as well too. Someone here made a pretty nice looking kegerator out of a garbage can :) A bucket...
