    Corks backing out

I just bottled my first wine yesterday. And I used synthetic corks that came with my equipment kit. I soaked them all in a starsan solution before corking, but I didn't dry them before corking. I think maybe the excess starsan is acting like a lubricant and allowing the corks to back out over...

    Need advice on filtering

Thanks Yooper. I haven't been a member of HBT for very long and I've already learned that I can rely on you for the answers I'm seeking. Your knowledge is appreciated.

    Need advice on filtering

I'm currently brewing a 3 gallon cru select chocolate orange port kit. This weekend it will be time to bottle. The instructions recommend filtering before bottling to prevent renewed fermentation. Is this absolutely necessary? SWMBO has put a stop to my equipment purchases for the time being...

Cool gift for dad but trying not to break the bank

What about one of those bottle trees with built in pump for sanitization. Not sure what its called but a guy on YouTube had one that would hang up to 90 bottles I think.

    Lego wine.

I like this idea. I even asked my wife if we could spare some of my son's legos. She said no, of course. He's 3 and still plays with them. But everyone seems to be making a big deal about selling wine. I'm pretty new to all if this. Is it illegal or is it just against the forum rules. Honestly...

    Peanut Butter Ale questions

Thanks for your response. Very good info. I have been watching videos on YouTube and I've seen some guys using wort chillers. Is it necessary to have one or is it just to speed things along?

    Peanut Butter Ale questions

I went to my LHBS and they had a Peanut Butter Brown Ale on tap. I've never been much of a beer drinker. I haven't found one that I like. Until now, that is. I just recently got into wine brewing. I have 4 different wines going (including 1 kit wine) and none are bottled yet. So I'm pretty new...

    Newbie Question

I am brewing a banana wine. The OG was 1.112. On the hydrometer it said 14% potential alcohol. I fermented for 13 days in primary bucket and racked into carboy. The SG now is .990. (Almost completely submerged my hydrometer) Doing the math (OG - SG)•131 = ABV. I came up with 15.9% ABV. Is...

    Yeast question

Ok that answers my question. Thank you, but now I have another. Is it possible or harmful to use too much yeast?

    Yeast question

I recently started a 1 gal batch of pineapple wine and I used half a packet of yeast. I've seen on videos people using half packs and others using whole packs for 1 gal batches. What is the difference in the outcome? Will it ferment faster with a whole pack as opposed to a half?

    Foul odor
