    Possible Contamination

I'm hoping you're right. Thanks for the reassurance. :mug:

    Possible Contamination

I started my latest brew today. Everything was cleaned, sanitized, and laid out. I try to stay organized and tidy to prevent mishaps. Everything went great until the end. I just pitched the yeast and was about to put the lid on, but my 3 year old said he wanted to look at it first. As soon as he...

    Beer Kit Help

Thanks for all of the responses. I am getting alot of contadicting information. Some say its OK to add to grain bag, some say it needs to be mashed. I've been reading more on it and I'm leaning towards the mash. I would hate to ruin a beer and mashing seems to be the safe route. I will be...

    Beer Kit Help

I bought a Milk Stout 5gal kit (LME) and plan on brewing tomorrow. I wanted to make a Vanilla Oatmeal Stout. Is it possible to just add oatmeal to the grain bag? Or would that ruin it? If possible, what kind of oatmeal? And how much?

    First Beer Success!!

Haha. SWMBO hates it, but that's how I get with all of my hobbies. I do way too much research for my own good. I've already got plans for a kegerator build.

    First Beer Success!!

My first beer is complete. Peanut Butter Brown Ale. I went ahead and bought a keg setup so its on tap. Definitely brewing this one again. I only made 3 gal and wish I had made more. I just wanted to taste it and I've already had 3 glasses lol. I think the next brew will be a sweet oatmeal stout...

    Holiday apple wine ideas?

I have a bunch of bottles of Ed Worts Apfelwein. I want to make a spiced cider/wassle with it. My wine is fermented out dry and not back sweetened. I plan on using about 4 bottles. Anybody have some good recipes or links to some good ones? I tried making some from the pre packaged wassle spice...

    ball lock fittings

I may be wrong, but I don't think we're on the same page lol. I understand that the fittings only fit their repective In/out posts. The fittings that I ordered suggest reversed flow. (liquid in) (gas out). Typically, one would not put liquid into the keg through the ball lock fitting. I want to...

    ball lock fittings

This is what I ordered. Didn't realise it. What is the purpose of this?

    ball lock fittings

Just ordered an extra set of ball lock disconnects and when it came in, the package said "LIQUID IN" & "GAS OUT". I was wondering does it make a difference? I figured the direction of flow wouldn't matter. If it does make a difference, what is the purpose of this type of fittings?

    CO2 pricing question

Thank yall for all of the info. I really appreciate it. Great stuff! I am about to check out Keg connection.

    CO2 pricing question

Thank you so much. That's what I needed to know. I'm on a buget, so I'm going to buy everything over time. I've been looking on YouTube at making a kegerator. Are there less expensive ways to chill the brew? I suppose I could just go from the keg to bottles. Lol. Almost defeating the purpose.

    CO2 pricing question

I was just curious. What would be the minimum amount of equipment I would need to Carb my beer with CO2? What would be a rough estimate of cost for the equipment? I'm brewing my first beer and I'm going to bottle Carb this batch, but the future brews I think I would like to do in a keg.

    Splenda for back sweetening

I was too impatient for that. Lol. Maybe next time. I just bottled dry. I tried it with Sprite and it was excellent. So I made labels with a serving suggestion of adding Sprite or 7up. Thanks for all of the advice. I will remember for next time. I have 6 gal of banana wine that will need to be...

    Splenda for back sweetening

Well I tried to make a few samples with different amounts of splenda in them. My wife and I both can taste splenda even with a small amount in it. I decided to go ahead and bottle without sweetening. Next time I may try a wine conditioner. Thanks for yalls responses though.

    Splenda for back sweetening

I started brewing a 6gal. Batch of Ed Worts Apfelwein, and its been aging for about 6 months. I like my wine to be sweet, and have decided to use Splenda for back sweetening. My question is how much Splenda?

    Corks backing out

I thought it might be the starsan. Is there anything I can do about these? I dont have enough corks to recork them. And if I did, is it going to hurt the wine to open the bottles and put new corks in?

    Corks backing out

Well I messed up a little bit there. My OG was 1.118 and it fermented out in primary to .995 when I transfered to secondary. I added the stabilizer and flavor pack but forgot to check sg after that. (This is a kit by the way) On bottling day the FG was 1.026. But its weird. Only 1/2 of the...
