I use the Avantco for 3 gal batches in my 5.5 gal Ssbrewtech kettle all the time. No sweat to do a full volume no sparge BIAB. I also have a 7.5 gal Anvil kettle for larger batches or bigger beers. I too read the mixed reviews, so when I decided to buy it I bought it through Amazon and for like...

    pH meter options

I use an Apera 60 ph meter. I think it was about $70 on Amazon but it has a replaceable probe. I'm likely biased from previously working in a research facility, but I I learned you need accurate data in order to make informed decisions, so it was worth it to me to get dependable readings.

Sacch Rest - maintain the temp?

What Wilser said. My method as well.

    Thanks a lot!

What kind of fermentor are you using..

I use a 7 gal brew bucket, a 3.5 gal brew bucket, and the 2 gal Mr Beer plastic keg. I use a 4.4 cu ft mini fridge for ferm chamber, so I can either fit 2 small batches with the 3.5 ss brew bucket and 2.25 gal in the Mr Beer keg, or a 5 gal batch with the 7 gal ss brew bucket. I kinda like...

What kind of fermentor are you using..

Been thinking about that set up for my 7 gal brew bucket. If it's not too much trouble, how tall is your rig from top to bottom? I'd like to know if mine would still fit in my minifridge. Thanks

    Will 240v 30amp controller work on 240v 20amp circuit?

No, i haven't changed my system. For me, the induction burner for 5-6 gallon max batches is a super and inexpensive heat source solution. The quick ramp times, ease of clean up, and no maintenance are a slam dunk for my needs. Lol, for $8, I got a 3 year replacement policy on my burner, which...

BIAB Hoisting w/ a Ratchet Pulley

No, this is smoother better quality than the yellow type you're referring to. Holding up great and no annoying splinters. Quite happy with the whole rig for my garage set up. Everything is right there from mashing, draining, boiling, chilling, fermenting. Kettle will slide maybe 2ft to pulley...

BIAB Hoisting w/ a Ratchet Pulley

Lol, no problem with stumping at all. When I started out with the BIAB, I don't think I was on the forum yet and didn't have a clue except searching on Amazon. Likely went with more is better approach.

BIAB Hoisting w/ a Ratchet Pulley

I'm 68 and opted for this pulley with the string release since I mounted to a 10ft ceiling in the garage. It's a 3/8 rope rated for 250lbs. Lol, way overkill for my 5gal max grain bills, but it is super easy to operate. https://www.brewinabag.com/products/pulley-metal-ratchet-250-lbs-capacity

BIAB Hoisting w/ a Ratchet Pulley

+1 for a ratcheting pulley! Lol, my first couple BIAB were on the kitchen stove and I quickly found out even fairly small grain bills needed to drain in another pot as it was too awkward trying to squeeze and drain by hand. I moved my brewing into garage where I could ceiling mount a ratcheting...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Something to be said for that! Of course the packers are much larger than your 4-5 lbs chucks. I'll need to compare some pricing next time I'm at the store.

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Smoking a chuck roast today. Be my first one. Lol, I'd have never thought of doing one until discovering this smoking thread a few weeks ago. Brined it last night and in fact gotta go now to get it out of the fridge and get the smoker ready. Excited

    Will 240v 30amp controller work on 240v 20amp circuit?

Lol, @augiedoggy I even have to turn down my 3500 w induction burner when it hits boil. Since I'm retired my time spent on brew day is not a big deal, since everyday is Saturday. My ramp from cold tap water to strike temp is 20 mi, and from mash to a full vigorous boil is 16 min. I'm good with...

    Will 240v 30amp controller work on 240v 20amp circuit?

I worded my reply poorly. What I meant to convey is that I thought there would be a way to wire in a 120v accessory into the panel. I had not given thought to a 4 wire setup that would make a 120v possible by using the neutral. However if not, I have a 120v gang box adjacent to my 240v outlet...

    Will 240v 30amp controller work on 240v 20amp circuit?

Thanks for that info, I thought maybe an accessory like a pump would have a separate 120v outlet connection.

    Will 240v 30amp controller work on 240v 20amp circuit?

Yep, it's a 6-20p 250v plug, 3 wire and runs my 3hp jet tablesaw, as well as my 3500w induction burner. Just looking at options if I were to bump up to a larger kettle.

    Will 240v 30amp controller work on 240v 20amp circuit?

Right now I'm using a 240v induction burner for my BIAB, because it is compatible with my 20amp 240v table saw outlet in the garage. Uses a Nema 6-20 plug. So curious if I wanted to go with say a 3750w boil coil, would a 30amp controller work by just changing the L 6-30 plug to a 6-20p?

    Melting chocolate in a stout

I didn't think you're supposed to use chocolate because of the fat in it. Only time I have, I used Cacao Nibs.

PH meters that are easy to store, affordable, and accurate at mash temps?

I went with the Apera ph60. It's a nice meter and probe head is replaceable. It was about $72 but to get a nice portable digital pen style that works well, it's a good value IMO. It comes with a small starter amount of calibration fluid and storage, but you really have to get a bigger set. I...
