Lord, make me fast and accurate [Thermometer question]

I don't know about the $40 therms, but I went through 2 of the 25 dollar ones after a few brews each and they were better than the dial therms I had prior. I wisened up before dropping any more and got the thermapen - you really can't go wrong with this. It probably gets more use now in the...

    Thermapen question

I usually brew bigger (abv) 5 gal (7 gal preboil) batches in a igloo ice cube MT. I figure the thermapen gets almost 40% into the depth of the mash - that is close enough to half- way. I check temps in several areas of the mash and often find a 1-2 deg difference towards the end of the mash...

    First Brewing Casualty

Is this the plastic 1/2" model? If so, the same thing happened to mine - I just cut the cane off right before the bend/brake and hook my tubing up to that - it works fine. jason

New Northern Brewer catalogue- has a Furious clone!

I hope I'm not pointing out the obvious............. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/furious-clone-148291/ Nice thread with multiple revised recipies, some "expert" opinions and a link to the byo clone recipe (which looks a little suspect). There is also a Midwest Supplies clone recipe...

fold up brewstand vs hidden brew stand?

What about something like this. I have one and it works great. I am in the process of mounting a pump within the main section. While there is no space to hold the kettles and MT, I find that those are easily stashed elsewhere. I also have a place scoped out to mount the in-near-future RIMS...

    Another RIMs in a box

brewspook, The box looks great and I am glad everything worked out so well. I am curious about the short tubing on the inlet of the pump? Was this a barb fitting or did you have another reason? I have my valves/QDs connected directly to the pump head and I am a little nervous about cracking...

    New Kettle

I am sure you have seen all the threads but how can you not like: http://www.restaurantsupplyhouse.com/servlet/the-55/40-qt.-Medium-Weight/Detail Its $39! The heavy duty 6mm thick version is 59. I have a similar one (not sure of the exact thickness) and the thing is like a tank. Drilling...

New SS fittings - any prep work necessary?

I was thinking a soak in PBW or some detergent-like cleaner would be better at removing any manufacturing oils/grease. then the obligitory StarSan soak. jason

    Question for pumpers - Vorlauf?

I have a question for those using the March or Little Giant pumps. Is it necessary to vorlauf to clear the wort before pumping out of the MT? I use a bazooka tube in my cooler MT and I do get a grainy run off for the first 4-6 qts. After that it clears nicely. Can these pumps handle the...

    HERMS questions

Sorry for a quick but on-topic hijack..... Walker, After you pump your first runnings (which I assume are clear from the recirc), you add the batch sparge volume to the MT. Could you elaborate a bit on the next steps. I imagine you then stir the mash again to mix. Do you then do some sort...

    Stainless Camlocks review

Does anybody have the 3/4" size yet? I want to replace the standard seal with a silicone O-ring but am not sure what size to get. Proflow says they are not planning on carrying the"food safe" seals in anything but the 1/2" size. they said if would cost them $7.50 for the 3/4" -wow! Any ideas...

    thermoworks thermapen ever broken?

Don't know about breakage, but I highly recommend one. I went through several thermos that all seemed to die after a few brews, including one of their mini hand-helds that I damaged the probe during the first use (had it in a pocket). The worst thing was that I could never get two to get...
