Thanks for taking the time to draw that, good skillz :) Unfortunately my stove has nothing on the left. I think I have found the perfect fit colander for my kettle: http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B005V2S4S2/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

So true, the position is really bad. Mine is even worst since kettle is on a stove already up to my torso level. I need to stand on a chair so I can lift the bag high enough. Gonna master 5gal lifting technique first! Edit: I can't really build a frame of 2x4, not sure this kind of apartment...

I see, thanks for the clarification. Like you I find 5 gallons batch easy to do for now and don't plan 10gal for too soon as I'm still learning lot of things. I can see lifting double the grain being a problem (around 23 pounds of grain full of water = X pounds). It could be doable with...

Ok no handle support, got it. So far this is my first choice: http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B005V2S4S2/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Just have to make sure it's wide enough. Gavin when you say this won't work for a 10gal batch, do you mean the colander could break because there is too much weight on it?

    Yeast - Recycling for nutrition?

I am making my first beer at the moment. I heard good stuff about beer yeast, for example, it would be good for the general health and immune system. http://superhumancoach.com/pros-and-cons-of-brewers-yeast/ http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/health-benefits-brewers-yeast-5425.html I'm wondering...

Going to go to the colander way. Seems the easiest to use, less work to set-up and less $ to invest. Top of my kettle is 41.5 cm wide from the outside wall of the kettle. Looking to find one colander that will best fit my kettle. List so far 1 -16$ -...

    Dry hopping - Limiting O2

Thanks guys, I was probably overthinking this one. I boil my hop bag that is made in voile (wilser bag) before adding the hops. Should work fine!

You are right, I just made that pic for the laught of it. Thanks for confirming it's a ridiculous idea :) Too bad the bottom of my cabinet is not hight enough to lift the bag, this place would be good. Gotta find more idea. Best idea so far is to find a colander that will fit my kettle.

LoL gotta think long term, and the pot is big enough to be covered by 2 electric elements. Put both elements at 'low' and I keep my mash temp :) Here are the experimental pic setup. I know the door is not made to hold too much weight. I will move the hook somewhere else if it fails...

    Dry hopping - Limiting O2

Looks like a good plan, will try that next time. Not sure about the need for the hop bag also, if the hop settle at the bottom, I don't see a problem not using a bag. I boiled the bag in hot water and let it dry before using it. Also I figured the beer as alcohol at this moment so less...

Thanks guys for all the ideas, Hop bag problem solved, bought a pack of big binder clips for 1$ at dollarama! As for the pulley for the Biab bag, I will first try to set it on the cabinet door for a 5gal batch. I put a screwless hook on top of the door that just sit on the door. I will use the...

    Dry hopping - Limiting O2

Hey Gavin, I almost did what you said except I wanted to pass the hop bag inside the small hole, could be doable if I push it hard enough. I finally decided to opt for the lid, since I had problems taking off the airlock without splashing star san that is in it inside the bucket. It seems when...

God that is a good idea, I may have a way to do that. Will post pics of it later. Only thing i'm worried, will the cabinet door handle that much weight? Cabinet door has 4 screw in wood that looks solid, I guess next batch will tell me :) For going outside, thanks for the suggestion but it's...

    Dry hopping - Limiting O2

Yeah my fermentation took almost 24h to start off. Also I was not home before the 13 so no choice here. What do you mean by purging? Do you use something to get the air out of the fermenter? For bottling, I will mostly use PET bottle and heard a good trick is to squeeze the bottle so that there...

    Dry hopping - Limiting O2

Nope, everything is done in the primary. I like to keep things simple when I can! I pitched yeast on the October 5, now it's in primary with dry hop since the 13. I plan to bottle on October 18 after 24h in the fridge.

    Dry hopping - Limiting O2

Interesting to see all the different views on how and when to add dry hops. Yes I inserted the hop bag pretty fast just with a part of the lid open, but figured air is pretty fast so no matter how fast I do it some will get in... I may try adding the hops earlier (at end of fermentation in...

    Dry hopping - Limiting O2

I'm brewing my first beer (IPA) and just inserted my dry hop in the primary bucket. I'm a newbie but read that Oxygen is not a friend of the beer, so is there a way to avoid inserting lot of oxygen when you put your dry hop into your fermentation bucket? I waited that the airlock stopped...

Thanks for your expert insight guys Yeah Wilser you may be right, I like simple thing too. I have a BBQ grill but it's dirty.. I could clean and dedicate one to this job, but I'm afraid the bag will drip on the side of the kettle with this. A long BBQ tool may help me hold the bag for 10min...

Printing at Kinkos; Sticking with Milk

I have a color ink printer at home and some standard US Letter paper. I was wondering, if you put milk on the paper after printing, will that screw the image with the milk absorption on the paper? I was thinking using this awesome generator : https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=180409...

    Setup Improvement Ideas

Thanks for the ideas guys, good to see alternative solution! For now I don't want to break the bank so I will try the 2 chair + hockey stick method to hold the bag in the air. Downfall with this method is I will have to take the kettle off the stove to the ground to do that, but should be...
